The determination of Calcium in the blood of Arthritic patients as an interesting problem was suggested by Doctor J. C. Metts, physician at the Sacred Heart Sanitarium from August 1927 to September 1930, and encouraged by Doctor F. W. Mackoy, present physician at the Sanitarium.
All the experimental work was carried on in the Laboratory of the Sacred Heart Sanitarium and all the specimens of blood were taken from cases present at the Sanitarium during the time of the writing of this thesis.

A great deal of work has been expended on the study of the functions of the spleen, and the results obtained have, for the most part, been disappointing.
