Relationship Between Stress And Performance In Skills Competencies In An Undergraduate Nursing Program, Erin Ababiy

This research study describes the potential relationship between perceived high stress levels and failure in high-stakes performance testing in a baccalaureate undergraduate nursing environment. In addition, it determines if there is a marked difference between perceived stress levels in accelerated and traditional students. To answer these questions, the researcher administered the Cohen’s self-report Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to baccalaureate nursing students fifteen minutes before high-stakes performance skills competency testing. Of 102 voluntary participants, 33 were of the accelerated nursing track and 69 were of the traditional track. Encompassing both groups, nine students failed the skills competency test.

Purpose:The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI), coping mechanisms and perceived stress in undergraduate nursing students.

Design:A quantitative non-experimental descriptive design was followed.

Method:The data was collected through a convenience sample. The sample was collected during an undergraduate nursing class where the students in the classroom were asked to participate in the study. White-nose syndrome (WNS), a disease caused by the fungus Pseudogymnoascus destructans, is responsible for the extensive mortality of bats in the United States. In an effort to develop tools to reduce bat mortality attributed to WNS, an in vitro experiment was conducted to quantify the inhibitory effects of select volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as well as explore potential synergistic activities. This purpose of this study is to quantify potential cost savings and member care improvements as a result of engagement through BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s (BCBST) Identification and Stratification (IDStrat) process. Commercial members engaged in clinical management that were identified through IDStrat were compared to commercial members identified through other means across several metrics including per-member, per-month (PMPM) cost and physician visits. Members identified by IDStrat experienced a statistically significant 7% greater reduction in costs after being engaged when compared with those identified by other methods. Purpose: On-call shifts are used for unpredictable hours in addition to regular shifts at many hospitals. The purpose of this study is to explore the factors related to nurse fatigue in nurses who work on-call shifts, as well as identifying the consequences of call-shift related fatigue on these nurses.

Design: A descriptive qualitative design will be used.

To assess the effect of swimming specialization on performance and injury risk in collegiate swimmers, thirty collegiate swimmers (20.1 ± 0.9 years [18.5 – 22.3 years]) were asked to complete an anonymous survey to provide information regarding their sports participation history, success in swimming, and the occurrence and quantity of swimming-related injuries. Specialization status was determined by the swimmer claiming they had specialized and by the number of months (≥ 8 months) they participated in swimming each year. Correlation analysis revealed several significant (p < 0.05) relationships between all determinants of specialization, swimming success, and swimming injuries. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that the age which an athlete specialized was the best predictor of the occurrence of a swimming- related injury (R² = 0.34, p = 0.004) and the number of injuries sustained (R² = 0.25, …
