Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) or concussion is a growing public health concern in adolescents, and early interventions should target persistent symptoms that can impact learning, behavior, and emotions. The past decade has brought increased awareness, identification, and reporting of concussion and an accompanying explosion of quality research on the management of concussion. Football related concussions are a growing concern in society. Concussions can lead to a major brain disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy. This disease leads to many degenerative qualities that affect physical, cognitive, and emotional aspects in football players. In this review, the effects, evaluation, and prevention of concussions in football are discussed.
