Health Status And Adults Willingness To Encounter A Provider By Telehealth, Jacqueline Perry

Applied Research Projects

Telehealth has proven to be a growing sector providing on-demand health services for consumers. A long history of development and refinement precede what we now know as telehealth technology. Access to telehealth technology has become widely available changing the landscape of healthcare. However, does that mean that consumers desire to use the technology? How does a factor such as health status play a role in the consumers’ willingness to encounter a provider using telehealth as the method for delivery of care? This research project aims to compare self-selected health status to consumers’ willingness to engage with telehealth services.

Sepsis Screening Tool Increased The Usage Of Sepsis Order Set, Raweewan Liengsawangwong

Applied Research Projects

Introduction: The sepsis screening tool was launched to improve the usage of the sepsis order set.

Objectives: The purposes of this study were to determine whether the sepsis screening tool increased the usage of sepsis order set and whether the tool improved the primary outcomes. This study assessed the association between using sepsis order set and the compliance of the SEP-1 measure (represented by achieving total perfect care), and the primary outcomes. Furthermore, this study assessed association between the compliance with SEP-1 and the primary outcomes. The primary outcomes were a) time zero to antibiotics, b) inpatient length of stay, …

Barriers To Patient Electronic Portal Usage, Debbie Hoza May 2019

Barriers To Patient Electronic Portal Usage, Debbie Hoza

Applied Research Projects

This paper focuses on the barriers that patients have as to why they do not use their electronic patient portal. The literature suggests that the age and socioeconomic status of the individual has a big impact on the use of the electronic portals. A review of the literature showed that all populations have not been represented. This study surveys a broader range of patients including all ages, genders, education and socioeconomic statuses to see what barriers that this broader range of patients has to using their electronic portals.

Safeguarding Against Data Breaches, Stephanie Johnson Apr 2019

Safeguarding Against Data Breaches, Stephanie Johnson

Applied Research Projects

Reports of data breaches have seen an increase in the past decade and compared to other businesses; these breaches are estimated to be the most expensive in healthcare and affect millions of patients. One may ask what is a data breach, what causes it, and how can it be prevented? Particularly vulnerable to breaches is Protected Health Information (PHI) collected by the healthcare provider. This information is any part of the patient’s medical record or payment history. Regularly, healthcare organizations utilize business associates and covered entities to deliver patient care. During this process, PHI is produced. This study addresses the …

An Assessment Of Utilization Of Prescription Anti-Hypertension Medications Via A Health Records Database, Ryan Payne

Applied Research Projects

Obesity is a growing problem in the United States, though not a new one. It was estimated that over 72 million U.S. adults alone have a diagnosis of obesity. Among all preventable premature deaths, obesity ranks as the second leading cause. Contemporary classifications define obesity as a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 30. Several common comorbidities are widely present in obese populations, particularly hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. Among these chronic disease states, hypertension has been identified as the most common and earliest identifiable. The purpose of this study was to make inferences on the prescribing of …

Implementation Of Pharmacogenomics Into Electronic Health Record And Clinical Decision Support, Dharaben Naik Apr 2019

Implementation Of Pharmacogenomics Into Electronic Health Record And Clinical Decision Support, Dharaben Naik

Applied Research Projects

The advent of electronic health records (EHR) and clinical decision support (CDS) has brought numerous changes in the healthcare field and has improved how patients receive care. The field of pharmacogenomics has made many breakthrough discoveries in the last few decades and these new advances have immensely reduced the cost of genetic testing. As advances have been made, researchers have discovered that individuals may respond to a medication differently due to genetic variants. There is a shift in the medical field from a one size fits all model to a personalized medicine model based on genetic information. Institutions have started …

Health Information Exchanges In The Community Pharmacy Setting, Kenneth D. Sykes Apr 2019

Health Information Exchanges In The Community Pharmacy Setting, Kenneth D. Sykes

Applied Research Projects

The landscape of health care is shifting as new payment models and mandates for health information technology (HIT) rise. There is an unprecedented demand to meet our nation’s health care challenges of access, safety, quality, and cost. To meet these demands, the health care industry has recognized a team-based care model which can introduce the collaborative power through health information exchanges (HIEs). Providers like pharmacists, can detect and resolve medication errors, duplications, and omissions by using HIEs. HIEs give pharmacists the entire view of the patient from the bed-side of the hospital to the community pharmacy. However, the implementation of …
