Childhood obesity is a significantly growing epidemic affecting a wide range of members of the pediatric population. In 2003, the American Academy of Pediatrics revealed that up to 30% of the nation's pediatric population are overweight or obese and that there is a potential that another 30% of the population are at high risk of becoming obese (Weightawareness.com).
