Purpose. The purpose of the study was to identify attitudes and topics relevant to peer mentoring as an adherence-promoting intervention for adolescents and young adults (YAs) with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Methods. Self-administered survey data were collected in 2 diabetes clinics from a convenience sample of adolescents as prospective mentees (ages 13-18) and YAs as prospective mentors (ages 19-25) with T1D. Survey topics included demographics, disease history, glycemic control, adherence, depression, barriers to disease management, social support, and interest in peer mentoring. Descriptive statistical analyses, thematic coding, and stepwise multivariate logistic regression were performed.

Background. Health care utilization patterns and associated costs of congenital heart disease (CHD) in young adulthood are not well understood.
Methods. California State Inpatient Databases 2005 to 2009 were used to conduct a retrospective study on inpatient admissions of CHD patients 10 to 29 years old (n = 7,419) and of all patients of the same age (n = 1,195,233).
Results. Compared with all patients, annual admission costs of CHD patients monotonically decreased, from $13.9 million at age 10 to 14 years to $7.2 million at age 25 to 29 years, which were due to lower costs per admission and …

BACKGROUND: Conceptual or theoretical analysts of trust in medical settings distinguish among markedly different objects or types of trust. However, little is known about how similar or different these types of trust are in reality and the relationship of trust with satisfaction. OBJECTIVES: This exploratory study conducted a comparison among trust in one's personal physician, health insurer, and in the medical profession, and examined whether the relationship between trust and satisfaction differs according to the type of trust in question.
