Serotyping And Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Listeria Monocytogenes Isolatedfrom Ready-To-Eat Foods In Samsun, Turkey, Göknur Terzi̇, Ali̇ Gücükoğlu, Özgür Çadirci, Tolga Uyanik, Mustafa Ali̇şarli

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The objective of the present study was to assess the presence of Listeria monocytogenes and to investigate its serotyping and antibiotic resistance in ready-to-eat (RTE) foods. A total of 100 RTE foods, including 25 stuffed mussels, 25 ezme samples (a Turkish-style tomato dip/condiment), 25 fried spiced livers, and 25 mayonnaise-based salads were obtained from retail shops and supermarkets in Samsun, Turkey. Samples were analyzed using the standard procedure EN ISO 11290-1 and isolates of L. monocytogenes were confirmed for the presence of the hemolysin gene (hylA) by polymerase chain reaction. L. monocytogenes was identified in 1 of 25 (4%) mayonnaise-based …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Mastitis is recognized as one of the most important diseases affecting the dairy industry. The antibiotic susceptibility test is important to achieve accurate treatment in subclinical mastitis. This study was conducted to determine the presence of contagious mastitis agents (Streptococcus agalactiae and Staphylococcus aureus) in 270 bovine milk samples collected from 132 dairy cows with subclinical mastitis in 15 different dairy farms located in the Marmara Region of Turkey. A total of 256 bacterial pathogens were isolated, of which 25 isolates were identified as S. agalactiae and 12 isolates were identified as S. aureus. Antibiotic susceptibilities of the isolates were …

Frequency And Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Pasteurella Multocida And Mannheimia Haemolytica Isolates From Nasal Cavities Of Cattle, Kaan Önat, Serpi̇l Kahya, K. Tayfun Çarli Jan 2010

Frequency And Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Pasteurella Multocida And Mannheimia Haemolytica Isolates From Nasal Cavities Of Cattle, Kaan Önat, Serpi̇l Kahya, K. Tayfun Çarli

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of the present study was to determine the frequency of Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia haemolytica from nasal cavities of cattle, and to find antibiotic susceptibility profiles of the isolates. Bilateral nasal swab samples were collected from 47 clinically healthy Holstein cattle, with no history of antimicrobial treatment prior to sampling. Respectively, 5 and 27 isolates were identified as M. haemolytica and P. multocida. Seventeen samples from cattle of 1 year or younger were found to have P. multocida. On the other hand, from 29 samples from cattle of 2 years or older, 10 P. multocida and 5 M. …

Prevalence And Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Thermophilic Campylobacter Species In Broiler Chickens, Murat Yildirim, Ersi̇n İstanbulluoğlu, Burcu Ayvali Jan 2005

Prevalence And Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Thermophilic Campylobacter Species In Broiler Chickens, Murat Yildirim, Ersi̇n İstanbulluoğlu, Burcu Ayvali

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of thermophilic Campylobacter species in broiler chicken faecal samples and on their carcasses. The possible routes of carcass contamination were assessed from slaughterhouse to market. Furthermore, the study aimed to determine the antibiotic susceptibility of Campylobacter isolates from broilers. Thermophilic Campylobacter spp. was isolated from 393 (91.8%) of 428 samples examined. A total of 53 out of 57 rectal swab samples was positive for thermophilic Campylobacter spp. Thermophilic Campylobacter spp. were isolated from 93.6%, 92.9% and 91.3% of broiler carcass, faecal and caecal samples, respectively. No Campylobacter was isolated …

Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Pigs To E. Coli F4+, Pornchalit Assavacheep, Anongnart Somchit, Apisida Srikrauedong, Nipaporn Paiboonkijkul Mar 2003

Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Pigs To E. Coli F4+, Pornchalit Assavacheep, Anongnart Somchit, Apisida Srikrauedong, Nipaporn Paiboonkijkul

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The prevalence and antibiotic sensitivity of E. coli., and haemolytic E. coli. F4+ and haemolytic E. coli. F4- (E/F4+, E/F4-, HE/F4+ and HE/F4-) was investigated in five hundred and thirty, randomly collected, rectal swabs from pig herds in five areas of Thailand, between the dates June 2000 and January 2001. The prevalence of E/F4+, in each area was statistically significantly different with a range of 21.8-42.5% (30.4±8.8%). The greatest prevalence was found in the Northern area of Thailand, following by the Central, Western, Eastern, and Northeastern areas, respectively. The prevalence of E. coli. and haemolytic E. coli. F4+ and F4- …

Prevalence Of Mix Infectionsof Crytosporidium Spp. Eschricia Coli K99 And Rotavirus In The Faeces Of Diarrhoeic And Healty Cattle In Ankara..., Zişan Emre, Hatice Fi̇danci

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Faecai specimens from 172 diarrhoeic and 130 healthy cattle were examined for the presence of Crytosporidium spp., Eschricia coli K99 and Rotavirus in Ankara, Turkey. The prevalence of the Crytosporidium spp. infection in diarrhoeic and non-dierrhoeic cattle was 63.3% and 69.2%, respectively. Crytosporidium positive faecal specimens were examined for the presence of E. coli K99 and Rotavirus. E. coli K99 was isolated from the feaces of 35 diarrhoeic (32.1%) and 23 healthy (25.5%) animals. Rotavirus was not detected in any of feacal samples. In vitro drug sensitivities indicated that E. coli K99 was sensitive to Nalidixic acid in both diarrhoeic …
