The Effects Of Temperature And Relative Humidity On The Conception Rate Of Cattle In Smallholder Dairy Farms In Chiang Mai, Veerasak Punyapornwithaya, Sorn Teepatimakorn, Khwanchai Kreusukon, Witaya Suriyasathaporn

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of temperature and humidity on the conception rate of Holstein crossbred dairy cows in smallholder farms in Chiang Mai, Thailand. 7,312 pregnancy diagnosis examinations on 3,166 dairy cows in 510 herds and artificially inseminated, were collected by Chiang Mai AI Research and Biotechnology Center. The monthly average weather data, including minimum and maximum of both temperature and humidity, were obtained from the Thai Meteorological Department for the months January 2001 to December 2002. The relationship between temperature, humidity and conception rates were analyses by using a generalized estimation equation. For …

The Influence Of Shearing On Reproduction In Angora Rabbits, Tayfur Bekyürek, Mustafa Ün, Orkun Demi̇ral Jan 2005

The Influence Of Shearing On Reproduction In Angora Rabbits, Tayfur Bekyürek, Mustafa Ün, Orkun Demi̇ral

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to determine the optimum time and the conditions of mating for Angora rabbits. The study was initiated with 60 French Angora rabbits (53 does and 7 bucks). All animals were kept in individual cages under the same environmental conditions. The does were divided into 6 groups: does in group 1 were mated a week before the shearing, does in group 2 were mated during the shearing period, does in group 3 were mated a week after shearing, does in group 4 were mated a month after shearing and does in group 5 were mated …

Some Biological Characteristics Of The Tub Gurnard, Chelidonichthys Lucernus (Linnaeus, 1758) In The Sea Of Marmara, Lütfi̇ye Eryilmaz, Nuretti̇n Meri̇ç

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The biology of the tub gurnard, Chelidonichthys lucernus (Linnaeus, 1758), has been studied on data collected between November 1996 and November 1997 from the Sea of Marmara. Totally, 224 tub gurnards were sampled. The age, growth, length-weight relationship, condition factor, male to female ratio, first sexual maturity age, length and reproduction period were examined. The age composition of samples ranged between 1 and 6 years. Total length ranged between 12.3 and 41.5 cm, while weight varied from 15 to 617 g. The total length-weight relationship was estimated as W=0.0092L^{3.019}. The parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth equation were: L_{\infity} = …

Determination Of The Recruitment To Stock And Reproduction Period For Flounder (Platichthys Flesus Luscus Pallas, 1811) Along The Trabzon-Rize Coast, Eastern Black Sea, Erhan Çi̇loğlu Jan 2005

Determination Of The Recruitment To Stock And Reproduction Period For Flounder (Platichthys Flesus Luscus Pallas, 1811) Along The Trabzon-Rize Coast, Eastern Black Sea, Erhan Çi̇loğlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The length and weight distribution of flounder (Platichthys flesus luscus Pallas, 1811) were 14.2-34.1 cm and 28.879-611.0 g, respectively. The samples were distributed between the 0 and VII age groups. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters for flounder were L_t = 41.241[1-e^{-0.161(t+3.240)}] for females, L_t= 33.567[1-e^{-0.181(t+3.525)}] for males and L_t = 40.577[1-e^{-0.142(t+3.105)}] for the sexes combined. Reproduction took place from December to March but peaked in December. Two recruitment periods were determined for flounder: the first was January to July, and the second August to November. The proportions of recruitment in the first and second periods were 68.13% and 31.87%, respectively.

Some Productive Characteristics Of F_1, B_1 And F_{1}Xb_{1} Crossbreeds From Simmental X Sar Crossbreeding, Mehmet N. Orman, Okan Ertuğrul, Orhan Alpan Jan 2005

Some Productive Characteristics Of F_1, B_1 And F_{1}Xb_{1} Crossbreeds From Simmental X Sar Crossbreeding, Mehmet N. Orman, Okan Ertuğrul, Orhan Alpan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

South Anatolian Red (SAR) cattle are well adapted to the arid, hot and harsh conditions of the region and have the highest milk yield among the local breeds in Turkey. The purpose of this study was to determine the main productive characteristics, such as viability, reproduction and milk production, of F_1, B_1 and F_{1}XB_{1} crossbred genotype groups from Simmental x SAR crossbreeding. A t test was used for 2 group comparisons. In cases of insufficient numbers of variants in the groups Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used where appropriate. There was no difficulty during birth in any of the …

Effect Of Certain Factors On Productive And Reproductive Efficiency Traits And Phenotypic Relationships Among These Traits And Repeatabilities In West Anatolian Holsteins, Mustafa Tekerli̇, Mustafa Gündoğan Jan 2005

Effect Of Certain Factors On Productive And Reproductive Efficiency Traits And Phenotypic Relationships Among These Traits And Repeatabilities In West Anatolian Holsteins, Mustafa Tekerli̇, Mustafa Gündoğan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present investigation was undertaken to study certain factors affecting production efficiency, milk production and reproduction and to estimate the repeatabilities and phenotypic correlations of these traits in Holsteins maintained at different farms in western Anatolia over 3 years (1990 - 1993). The data consisted of 506 first and 232 second lactations of 525 cows. Three production efficiency traits (milk yield per day of lactation length (MYPDLL), milk yield per day of calving interval (MYPDCI) and milk yield per day of age at second calving (MYPDASC)), one production trait (lactation yield (LY)), and one reproduction trait (calving interval (CI)) were …
