Presence Of Mycoplasmas In The Respiratory System Of Small Ruminants Managed Under An Extensive Production System, Zinka Maksimovic, Christian De La Fe, Maid Rifatbegovic

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The objective of this study was to investigate the presence of mycoplasmas in the respiratory system of sheep and goat populations managed under extensive production systems. Specific culture and polymerase chain reaction techniques were performed on a total of 88 lung tissue samples and 142 nasal swabs obtained from multiple herds in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A total of 29 samples (12.6%) were found to be positive for mycoplasmas. Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae was detected in the nasal swabs and lungs of affected sheep (n = 19) and in the lungs of asymptomatic goat kids (n = 2), while M. arginini (n = …

Epibulbar Melanocytoma In A Goat, Annahita Rezaie, Hannaneh Golshahi, Mohammad Rahim Haji Hajikolaie Jan 2013

Epibulbar Melanocytoma In A Goat, Annahita Rezaie, Hannaneh Golshahi, Mohammad Rahim Haji Hajikolaie

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Melanocytoma is a benign tumor arising from the melanocytes. A 2-year-old female crossbreed goat that was suffering from respiratory insufficiency, emaciation, depression diffuse corneal opacity, and anemia was euthanized. There was a mass on the dorsal interface of the cornea and sclera of the left eye. It was raised, dark, and 2 mm in diameter. The histopathologic evaluation revealed melanocytoma and immunolabeling for Melan-A was positive. According to gross and microscopic evaluations, epibulbar melanocytoma was diagnosed and the authors think that the present case is the first recorded case of epibulbar melanocytoma in a goat.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Single nucleotide polymorphisms of the 5' regulatory region of the FSHR gene were detected in 3 goat breeds (Jining Grey, Boer, and Inner Mongolia Cashmere) by the polymerase chain reaction-single-strand conformation polymorphism method, and its effects on litter size in Jining Grey goats were also evaluated. Concerning primer P1, 2 genotypes (AA and BB) were detected in Boer goats, while only the AA genotype was identified in Jining Grey and Inner Mongolia Cashmere goats. Sequencing revealed a T->A transversion at the 26th position and an A->C transversion at the 61st position of the amplified region in genotype BB …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of chronic fluorosis on trace elements and vitamin levels in goats. Thirty-three goats exhibiting clinical signs of chronic fluorosis and 10 healthy goats from the same region were used. Animals with chronic fluorosis were divided into 2 groups according to their age as 1-3 years old and 4-6 years old. Blood samples were collected from all goats. Fluoride concentrations were determined with an ionometer. Na, K, and Cl levels were measured with ion-selective equipment and serum mineral substance levels were obtained by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Ca, Mg, and P levels were determined …
