The Long-Term Effects Of Japan’S Traumatic Experience In The Second World War And Its Implications For Peace In Northeast Asia, Eugen Koh, Tadashi Takeshima
New England Journal of Public Policy
This article is an introductory report on the work of a Japanese study group whose primary aim is peacemaking, which it seeks by promoting a greater understanding of the long-term effects of their country’s traumatic experience of the Second World War. The group does not adopt a position of victimhood but seeks to understand the full picture of Japan’s role in the war, including its role as perpetrator. We came together with the shared assumption that the country’s inability to take responsibility for its role of the war is inextricably tied to its own traumatization. If this assumption is true, …

The Influence Of Serum Calcium And Magnesium Levels In The Radiological Evolution Of Knee Osteoarthritis, Nicoleta-Bianca Tudorachi, Iuliana Eva, Cristina Gena Dascalu, Rami Al-Hiary, Bogdan Barbieru, Mihai Paunica, Catalina Motofei, Aurelian-Corneliu Moraru

Calcium and magnesium are minerals with important functions throughout the body. The deficiency has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and prostate cancer, and affects the skin and teeth. Some studies have associated it with osteoarthritis. Knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative pathology with a high prevalence that affects the knee joint, and prevention is necessary in the context of the lack of understanding of pathophysiology. The role of serum calcium and magnesium levels was considered in this regard. The study included a group of 371 hospitalized patients for unilateral or bilateral knee pain, of whom 326 …

Covid-19 Outbreak Impact On Plastic Surgery Residents From Romania, Cristina N. Marina, Daniela E. Gheoca-Mutu, Laura Răducu, Adelaida Avino, Lăcrămioara A. Brîndușe, Corina M. Stefan, Razvan V. Scaunasu, Cristian R. Jecan
Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences
The COVID-19 outbreak triggered a global crisis with long-term effects on people’s daily lives. It has altered surgical practice and education and imposed major changes in healthcare systems and resources. In order to analyze the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on Romanian Plastic Surgery residents, we carried out an anonymous questionnaire through Google forms. Survey items addressed aspects such as how the pandemic has affected their surgical practice, their exposure to the virus, and the protective measures that have been implemented to minimize risk. Among other results, our study found that nearly 1 in 5 respondents had contact with …

University Crime Alerts: Do They Contribute To Institutional Betrayal And Rape Myths?, Alexis A. Adams-Clark, Carly P. Smith, Prachi H. Bhuptani, Jennifer J. Freyd
Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence
Universities are mandated by the Clery Act (20 USC § 1092(f)) to publicize the occurrence of certain campus crimes. Many universities rely on “Crime Alert” emails to quickly and effectively communicate when a crime has occurred. However, communications of sexual crimes are often narrow (e.g., limited to stranger-perpetrated crimes) and misleading (e.g., containing safety tips that are not applicable to most types of sexual violence). The current paper presents the results of two studies that test the effects of reading crime alert emails on subsequent endorsement of rape myths and institutional betrayal. In Study 1, participants read a typical crime …

Hyperkalemia Secondary To Prophylactic Heparin Use In A Trauma Patient: Case Report, Marco Custodio, Errington C. Thompson
Marshall Journal of Medicine
This case report describes a complex trauma patient who develops hyperkalemia secondary to heparin. Heparin is a commonly used drug in trauma patients. Physicians need to be aware of this potentially harmful adverse reaction in these high-risk patients.
Understanding Etiologies Of Road Traffic Crashes, Injuries, And Death For Patients At National Hospital Abuja: A Qualitative Content Analysis Using Haddon’S Matrix, Benjamin D. Holmes, Kristin Haglund, Emmanuel A. Ameh, Oluwole O. Olaomi, Uthman Uthman, Laura D. Cassidy
Understanding Etiologies Of Road Traffic Crashes, Injuries, And Death For Patients At National Hospital Abuja: A Qualitative Content Analysis Using Haddon’S Matrix, Benjamin D. Holmes, Kristin Haglund, Emmanuel A. Ameh, Oluwole O. Olaomi, Uthman Uthman, Laura D. Cassidy
The Qualitative Report
Road traffic crashes and sequelae are reaching pandemic proportions globally and have currently achieved disproportionately high levels in Nigeria. Quantitative studies are accumulating in the peer-reviewed literature, but there is a paucity of qualitative research in Nigeria. Data for this study of structural and behavioral factors of road traffic crashes and injuries in Federal Capital Territory were collected in semi-structured interviews with crash survivors at National Hospital Abuja. Interviews were analyzed via qualitative content analysis, revealing crash location and participant beliefs about crash etiologies. Units of analysis were developed from participant statements and were structured within four a priori etiologic …
