A subset of omphalocele infants has respiratory decompensation after the first week of life and PHN is diagnosed. Infection may initiate decompensation. In some, PHN is distinct from pulmonary hypoplasia as they oxygenate on room air for some time after birth. With aggressive treatment and follow-up, PHN can resolve. The late diagnosis of PHN in infants with omphalocele is previously unappreciated and deserves further study.

Abstract

Catamenial pneumothorax (CP) is a rare and complex clinical condition caused by endometrial tissues, commonly found in reproductive women (age 15-49 years).Its diagnosis is often delayed or overlooked by clinicians, which may result in recurrent hospitalizations and other complications. A case of Catamenial pneumothorax is presented of a 38-year-old young married woman, admitted to hospital with signs and symptoms including chest pain and shortness of breath that started with her menstrual period. Right pneumothorax was observed in the Chest x-ray. Patient underwent Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). Abstract

Surgical techniques for carpal tunnel release are constantly evolving to reduce complications. This retrospective study was planned to identify the outcome and complications associated with a new operating technique for release of carpal tunnel using two incisions. It was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, and comprised patients undergoing surgical release of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) between January 2011 and December 2014. Of the 54 patients,38(70.4%) cases were of right-sided CTS. The mean operating time was 12.5±4.9 minutes. Inpatient Versus Outpatient Total Hip Arthroplasty, Michael Pollock

We conducted a randomized controlled trial to evaluate patients undergoing a total hip arthroplasty (THA) who were discharged from the hospital either on the day of surgery (outpatient) or were admitted overnight following surgery (inpatient). Our primary outcome was the rate of serious adverse events during the first three months postoperatively. Secondary outcome measures included cost, patient satisfaction, functional outcomes, quality of life and pain. We found no statistically significant difference between the two groups in serious adverse events. Introduction: Low back pain (LBP) is a common problem world over affecting 60-90% of the population in their lifetime. It is a leading reason for hospital admission, healthcare spending, workplace absenteeism and years lived with disability.

Up to 90% of patients suffering from low back pain do not have a serious pathology warranting imaging or further intervention besides symptom relief. These are categorized as having non- specific low back pain. This has a good prognosis running a short course of 3 to 6 weeks.

Methods: Synovial biopsies were harvested from the medial and lateral knee compartments from OA patients undergoing total joint replacement surgery. INTRODUCTION:

Cauda equina secondary to metastatic follicular thyroid cancer of the lumbosacral area is a rare entity.

CASE REPORT:

We report an unusual case of a 52-year-old male who presented with backache, lower limb weakness, and perianal numbness. A CT-scan of the lumbosacral area showed an enhancing mass at the L4, L5 and S1 vertebrae. Histopathology after excision revealed a metastatic thyroid cancer. Hence, a CT scan of the neck and chest was performed which showed a nodule in the left lobe of the thyroid and a mass in the left chest wall. A total thyroidectomy and excision of …
