Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is a rare complication of pregnancy in which the placenta abnormally implants into, and in rarer cases, through the uterine wall which leads to increased maternal morbidity with risk of maternal mortality. PAS diagnosed at the time of delivery is associated with severe maternal morbidity largely due to elevated blood loss which can result in complications such as DIC and even maternal death.
