Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare congenital disease that causes mirror transposition of the abdomino-thoracic structures. When such patients develop pathologies related to the bile duct, most commonly choledocholithiasis, the optimal diagnostic process can be hampered by the rarity of such a pathology and the lack of medical information on this topic. Once the diagnosis is established, through endoscopic ultrasound and MRCP, the patient is sent to perform ERCP, which requires tailored approaches for each case. We present the case of a 33-year-old patient who was previously documented with SIT. On admission she presented with abdominal pain and fever …

Introduction. Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a rare type of benign vascular tumour that affects only young males, especially those between the ages of 9 and 19. Therapeutic management depends on the extent of the lesion, being conditioned by the complexity of the anatomy of the skull base and the risk of massive bleeding due to the abundant vascular supply. The purpose of this article is to describe the modern approach to juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, starting from the general knowledge on this topic and presenting the experience of our clinic. Materials and Methods. A retrospective study was conducted on 10 male …

Medical And Psychological Management Of Patients With A History Of Surgical Treatment For Pancreatic Diseases, Magdalena Țone, Daniel Cochior, Oana Denisa Balalau, Tomescu Dana Rodica, Cristian Balalau, Teodora Mocan, Aurelian Udristoiu, Gabriel Petre Gorecki Apr 2024

Background. Pancreatic cancer, known for its high mortality rate and late diagnosis, remains a significant health concern. Surgery offers a potential therapeutic remedy, but it is only valid in the early stage of detection. Increasing risk factors and an aging population are expected to raise the incidence of pancreatic cancer, further challenging healthcare systems. Methods. The general objective of this study was to analyze doctors' experiences regarding the health status of patients with benign pancreatic pathology who underwent surgery and were admitted to CF2 Clinical Hospital in Bucharest. The research involved a specialized questionnaire addressing various aspects of patient health, …

Genetic And Serological Markers In Colorectal Cancer Surgery, Adrian Silaghi, Vlad Denis Constantin, Dragos Serban, Dragos Epistatu, Ioana Paunica, Daniela Gabriela Bălan, Laura Florentina Rebegea

Colon cancer is relatively asymptomatic in the early stages, the manifestations appearing and intensifying with the evolution of the disease, especially when associated with local and/or systemic complications. In such cases, surgical interventions are often emergency and involve more extensive operations (on metabolically and immune-stressed organisms), so that an early diagnosis (endoscopy, tumor markers, etc.) remains not only desirable but even a priority, especially in predisposed patients (genetic factors, lifestyle, etc.). As a consequence, the involvement of tumor markers in colon neoplasms has become more and more investigated in recent times. This review investigates the roles of serological and genetic …

Clinical And Biological Factors With Prognostic Value In Acute Pancreatitis, Mihai Faur, Dan Dumitrescu, Dan Sabau, Ciprian Tanasescu, Dan Cretu, Denisa Tanasescu, Vlad Denis Constantin, Calin Mohor Oct 2022

Clinical And Biological Factors With Prognostic Value In Acute Pancreatitis, Mihai Faur, Dan Dumitrescu, Dan Sabau, Ciprian Tanasescu, Dan Cretu, Denisa Tanasescu, Vlad Denis Constantin, Calin Mohor

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

Acute pancreatitis is an acute inflammatory process of the pancreas, which can remain localized at the level of the gland or can extend to the peripancreatic and retroperitoneal tissues. The use and interpretation of paraclinical examinations at the onset can predict the form of evolution of acute pancreatitis (mild or severe). Depending on the evolution, these data are useful in determining the type of surgical intervention that might be necessary based on severity.

We present a retrospective study consisting of 118 patients diagnosed and hospitalized with acute pancreatitis during 2016-2020 in the Surgery I section of the Sibiu County Emergency …

Modern Therapeutic Options In Diabetic Foot Ulcer, Denisa Tanasescu, Andrei Moisin, Radu Fleaca, Carmen Popa, Ciprian Bacila, Cosmin Mohor, Claudia Diana Gherman, Bogdan Gaspar, Ciprian Tanasescu

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

Diabetic foot is a severe complication of diabetes that occurs as a result of poor glycemic control, being associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Mortality associated with this disease is estimated at 5% in the first 12 months, and about 42% in the next 5 years. On average, it affects about 15% of people with diabetes during their lifetime, including as possible manifestations neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, and subsequent ulceration which, if treated incorrectly, can lead to amputation.

This paper presents a retrospective and descriptive study of patients diagnosed and treated for diabetic foot ulcers in the Proctoven Clinic. The …

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

There is ongoing debate regarding the role of neck dissection in differentiated thyroid cancer, about its usefulness in elective settings, and the increased costs regarding morbidity and operative time. This retrospective study aimed to determine the rate of metastases in cervical lymph nodes, to examine the morbidity of this surgery, and to assess whether a pattern of distribution of tumor cells concerning neck lymphatic compartments exists. The most frequent type of cancer to metastasize was papillary cancer, the majority of patients were young with a median of 30 years, predominantly females. Differentiated thyroid cancer frequently metastasizes to the central and …

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

Infections of the deep neck spaces often present a clinical challenge for the ENT surgeon. Management of these complex suppurations of the neck requires in fact a multidisciplinary approach due to possible complications like mediastinitis, septic shock and MSOF, life threatening bleeding and ICU management. The spread of infection from the primary site to other regions is possible through the lymphatic, arterial and venous vessels, or directly along the fasciae. There are several classifications for the etiology, pathogenic mechanism and site of evolution, the most frequently encountered clinical forms being peritonsillar abscess, retropharyngeal abscess, lateropharyngeal abscess, and the deep cervical …

A Proposed Therapeutic Algorithm Based On Multiple Case Analysis Regarding The Repair Options Of Iatrogenic Biliary Lesions Following Open And Laparoscopic Surgery, Cosmin Alec Moldovan, Dan Florin Ungureanu, Vladimir Beliș Sep 2016

A Proposed Therapeutic Algorithm Based On Multiple Case Analysis Regarding The Repair Options Of Iatrogenic Biliary Lesions Following Open And Laparoscopic Surgery, Cosmin Alec Moldovan, Dan Florin Ungureanu, Vladimir Beliș

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

Introduction: the problem of the iatrogenic lesions of the main biliary pathways is far from being completely clarified and still represents a serious surgical situation, during both open and laparoscopic surgeries. The outcome of these situations is closely linked with the actual moment of discovery of the lesion and the surgical methods for repairing such defects and implies a great number of options, such as reconstructive, derivative and substitutive techniques. Objectives: the goal of this paper is to present an algorithm of choices and their consequences for clinical conduit in the case of iatrogenic biliary lesions discovered in …
