Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Prematurity lowers body weight and bone mineral density in nearly 30% of preterm newborns. Premature newborns are not screened for metabolic bone disease, hence bone biochemical markers should be investigated. Acetylcholinesterase mediates bone remodeling in recent investigations. Bone biochemical indicators and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) levels in preterm newborns may be linked. Objective: The aim of our study is to evaluate the probable correlation of AChE levels with multiple bone biomarkers in full-term and premature neonates. Subjects and Methods: This study was designed as a case control study. We examined 80 newborns (40 preterm with gestational age less than 37 weeks, …

Potency Of Intravenous Dexamethasone On Preparing The Cervix And Labor Induction, Madiha Mohamed Hanafy, Hanan Abd El-Monem Mohamed, Hend Atif Mohamed Mesalam Abd Al-Hady

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Corticosteroids are one strategy for accelerating labor (labor induction). Animal studies show that sheep fetuses and other fetuses secrete cortisol to trigger labor. Extra-amniotic and intravenous (IV) corticosteroids both works. Cortisol and DHEA-S seem to affect the myometrium indirectly via promoting the synthesis of membrane prostaglandins. Elevated levels of estrogen alter the ratio of estrogen to progesterone, which disrupts the fetus' static state and induces myometrium contraction. Aim: This study's objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of intravenous dexamethasone for cervix preparation and labor induction. Subject and Methods: At Al-Zahraa University Hospital and Sayed Galal University Hospital's obstetrics and …

Evaluation Of Cervical Gland Area As Sonographic Predictor Of Preterm Labor, Abdel Moneim Mohamed Zakaria, Yasser Mohamed Said Kamel Diab, Mohamed Hisham Salah Ahmed Aboul Fotouh Jan 2023

Evaluation Of Cervical Gland Area As Sonographic Predictor Of Preterm Labor, Abdel Moneim Mohamed Zakaria, Yasser Mohamed Said Kamel Diab, Mohamed Hisham Salah Ahmed Aboul Fotouh

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Cervical assessment is a principal part of the prediction of PTL. The majority of tests assess cervical length and funnelling. The diminution in cervical length is an essential PTL criterion. The cervical gland area (CGA) is a unique ultrasonographic predictor of preterm birth. Collagen and proteoglycans are modified by the maturation of the cervical mucosa. Collagen disorganization, decreased collagen concentration & amplified water content are hallmarks of the development of the cervix. CGA vanishes from ultrasound imaging as a result of metabolic and water changes. In the second trimester, the absence of these glands can signify cervical maturity and …

Role Of Serum Amyloid A Levels In Preeclampsia, Ashraf Hamdy Mohammed, Adel Aly Elboghdady, Abd El-Aty Khairy Abd El-Latif Jan 2023

Role Of Serum Amyloid A Levels In Preeclampsia, Ashraf Hamdy Mohammed, Adel Aly Elboghdady, Abd El-Aty Khairy Abd El-Latif

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Preeclampsia (PE)is a frequent pregnancy complication and a leading factor in mother and fetal death. The maternal plasma level of SAA may be anticipated to be higher compared to levels seen during a typical pregnancy since preeclampsia is linked to extensive endothelial malfunction, which is thought to be triggered by an enhanced maternal systemic inflammatory response. The maternal plasma level of SAA during a healthy pregnancy may vary from that during a non-pregnancy owing to changes in the inflammatory response, elevated hormone balance, and/or increased adipose tissue.

Patients and Methods: At the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Al-Hussein and …

Accuracy Of Transcerebellar Diameter To Abdominal Circumference Ratio In Diagnosis Of Asymmetric Intrauterine Growth Restriction After 28 Weeks Of Gestation, Fahd Abdel Aal El-Omda, Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim, Mokhtar Ahmed Mokhtar Wahib Jan 2023

Accuracy Of Transcerebellar Diameter To Abdominal Circumference Ratio In Diagnosis Of Asymmetric Intrauterine Growth Restriction After 28 Weeks Of Gestation, Fahd Abdel Aal El-Omda, Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim, Mokhtar Ahmed Mokhtar Wahib

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: A fetus whose estimated weight is below the 10th percentile for its gestational age (GA) is the most often utilized definition of IUGR. A newborn with asymmetric growth limitation will have a smaller abdomen than head. Gestational age affects several of the factors for IUGR identification. An important metric that is independent of gestational age is the transcerebellar diameter to abdominal circumference ratio (TCD/AC). Both the volume of the subcutaneous plane and the size of the liver are reflected by AC. Aim: To measure fetus growth restriction and to choose a cut-off value for TCD/AC to evaluate the reliability …

Aim: What is the difference between the effect of oral and vaginal misoprostol for induction of labor in pregnant females with PROM regarding efficacy, safety, maternal and fetal outcomes? Subject and Methods: …
