No Difference Found In Hamstring Strength Across Division I Football Positions, Hunter Jack, Kaden Kennard, Spencer Jezek, Joshua Sponbeck, Malorie Wilwand, A. Wayne Johnson

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Hamstring injuries are one of the most common injuries sustained in professional football with 800+ hamstring injuries per year. These hamstring injuries often occur between late swing (eccentric contraction) and early ground contact. PURPOSE: To investigate the correlation of eccentric hamstring strength to muscle volume across positional groups. METHODS: Athletes were divided into three homogeneous groups based on position (big (e.g., linemen), skill (e.g., receivers), combo (e.g., linebackers)). Seventy-three NCAA Division I football players participated (24 big, 37 skill, and 12 combo). Hamstring strength was collected for each leg while performing 3 Nordic curls on a Nordbord device. The peak …

Philippine Journal of Physical Therapy

Introduction. The use of mobile apps known as mHealth is starting to shape the delivery of physical therapy care not only in patients but also to the healthy population. Using an exercise app is a potential strategy to promote physical activity among individuals. Thus, this pilot study examined the utility of the Nike® Training Club app in increasing exercise adherence and enhancing aerobic endurance.

Methods. The study utilized one-way repeated measures over time quasi-experimental design. It used purposive sampling to select 10 college football players aged 18-25 years old. After downloading the app, the participants were required to perform a …

The Peter Principle In Nfl Coaching Hires: An Analysis Of Success Of Nfl Head Coaching Hiring Based On Experience, Sam Malone-Povolny

Master of Science in Kinesiology

The NFL is a massive professional sports organization with worldwide impact for its players and coaches. NFL head coaches come from all walks of life but end up falling into two categories once hired: Either a former head coach is hired to helm a new team or a rising assistant coach is brought in to inject some new ideas. Whichever category they fall into, the team members become a reflection of the coach’s ideas and values. And, how well the team does in terms of on-field success is often the main dictation of the coach’s future with the franchise. Using …

A common pre-season injury prevention assessment conducted by professional football clubs is the hamstring-to-quadriceps (H:Q) strength ratio calculated by peak torque (PT). However, it is debatable whether players that present low pre-season H:Q ratios are more susceptible to further sustaining in-season hamstring strain injuries (HSI). Based upon retrospective data from a Brazilian Serie A football squad, a particular season came to our attention as ten out of seventeen (~59%) professional male football players sustained HSI. Therefore, we examined the pre-season H:Q ratios of these players. H:Q conventional (CR) and functional (FR) ratios, and the respective knee extensor/flexor PT from the …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Introduction: This research has been conducted so it can help to understand the feelings of love and hatred towards the opposing team and their supporters of football club fans and to determine and control the fans’ aggression. Objective: This study aims to adapt the Love–Hate Scale for Sports Fans (LHSSF) to the Turkish context to evaluate the fanatic (love and hate) feelings of football fans. Methods: The study groups consisted of 205 football fans aged 18–58 years (mean age = 30.11). The original version of the scale consists of seven items and two sub-dimensions. To test the construct validity of …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

The aim of this study was to present the characteristics of the actions efficiency in elite goalkeepers. 54 observations of 25 goalkeepers participating in 27 matches of the World and the European Championships and the Africa Cup of Nations and Copa America held in the years 2014–2019 were included. The study applied a method of observation. Game data were registered on a self-developed observation sheet. Goalkeepers’ activity, effectiveness, and reliability with a view to implementing the objectives of the game were analyzed in offensive and in defense. It was found that in the elite goalkeepers’ game, offensive actions constitute 62% …

West Chester University Master’s Theses

Context: Recent evidence suggests an accumulation of head impact exposures may influence neurocognitive functioning over time. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between sub concussive impacts and reaction time in collegiate football players across a football season. Design: Observational cohort study. Setting: Data was collected at a NCAA Division III college throughout the 2022 competitive football season. Participants: 25 players volunteered for the study. Main Outcome Measures: HIE (99%,95%,

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: A comprehensive examination of the sport-specific activities and circumstances being performed at the time of injury is important to hypothesise mechanisms, develop prevention strategies and inform future investigations. Results reported in the literature are inconsistent because inciting activities are reported using different classifications. Hence the aim was to develop a standardised system for the reporting of inciting circumstances. Methods: The system was developed using a modified Nominal Group Technique. The initial panel included 12 sports practitioners and researchers from four continents with respectively ≥ 5 years of experience working in professional football and/or conducting injury research. The process consisted …
