The Relationship Between Grit And Physical Activity In Primigravida And Multigravida Pregnant Women, Lynne Bankhead, Marcus M. Lawrence

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Physical activity (PA) levels decline when women become pregnant; this may differ by gravidity (number of pregnancies). Grit is a construct consisting of two facets including perseverance of effort (perseverance) and consistency of interest (consistency), and it may be predictive of PA volume and/or intensity in individuals. PURPOSE: To determine the relationship between grit and PA levels of various activity types in pregnant women, including assessing primigravida and multigravida women. METHODS: Pregnant women (n=126; 27.6 years old; 17.7 weeks gestation) in Utah, USA were assessed for grit (overall score and the consistency and perseverance facets) with the Short …

Paediatric Physical Activity And Health: Moving Towards A Measure Of Quality, Cain C.T. Clark, Claire M. Barnes

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

It is clear that physical activity, holistically, is linked with several positive factors through the life course. There exists a large evidence base for physical activity quantity, yet there has been little integration of physical activity qualities, and whilst qualityis a nebulous term, recent developments in literature suggest it may be a viable measure in the characterisation of physical activity. The purpose of the study was to comprehensively review the development towards a measure of physical activity quality.‪A review of literature was conducted using online databases: Web of Science, PubMed and Google Scholar. A narrative review was subsequently prepared on …

Pedagogical and educational institutions play an important role in health education. The proposed systemic principles should account for biological, environmental and cultural factors that determine the health of children and adolescents. Young people’s individual needs should constitute the framework of educational policy in the prevention of obesity and overweight. An analysis of health education practice in the Polish educational system indicates that the adopted measures, their practical applications and educational goals are adequate. Despite the above, the proposed systemic solutions are not always deployed or correctly implemented by the responsible institutions at various levels of local or social governance. The …

Despite these efforts, only 49.9% of US students meeting the National Guidelines for physical activity, reporting low fitness levels, as evaluated by the respective scores of the five fitness components. Fitness evaluation though is a time-consuming process and students’ time constrains have been postulated as reasons for lack of participation, motivation, and involvement. PURPOSE: Since time availability may influence students’ participation in a battery of fitness testing for evaluating their PF levels, this study aimed through principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce the …
