Influence Of Athlete Heart Rate, Rate Of Perceived Exertion, And Anxiety In Rowing Practice And Competition, Katherine Skrlj Krengel

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is a significant correlation between heart rate (HR) and rate of perceived exertion (RPE) in rowing, how athlete perception of pre-race anxiety relates to HR and RPE, and how these variables change between practice and competition. Four subjects were tested over the course of their rowing season for somatic and cognitive anxiety, self-confidence, HR, and RPE in three different 2000 meter racing conditions: indoor ergometer, on-water racing, and on-water practice. This study examined the effect of the increase in the number of international student-athletes in Division I college athletics on the experience of international and domestic student-athletes, specifically by investigating the perceptions of female athletes participating in sports that have high percentages of international student-athlete involvement. Scholarship opportunities, school choice, playing time, and recruiting areall areas that were explored through a questionnaire. This study potentially fills a gap in the research regarding the increased participation by international student-athletes on both the domestic and international student-athlete experience. The "glass ceiling" is a metaphor for examining gender disparities between men and women within the workplace. The disparity is particularly dominate in the domain of athletic administration. This study evaluates specific leadership characteristics and their relationship to gender stereotyping. It also examines perceptions that individuals have on leadership based off because athletic administration is specifically a male dominated domain there appears to be discrimination against women inducing a gender gap, and stunting their advancement into top level managerial positions.

Type 2 diabetes is a worldwide epidemic due to many increasing risk factors such as obesity. New avenues are constantly being explored to find solutions for this impactful disease. Biochemical means are being looked into as a possible solution due to the polypeptide Amylin. An explanation for the connection between Amylin and type 2 diabetes is given, by explaining each separately and then connecting the amyloid fibril formation to type 2 diabetes. Obesity and physical inactivity are on the rise in our society today. Combined with poor eating habits, many Americans are overweight or obese. Churches have become important settings for providing health education programs, especially for African-American populations. There have been mixed results from faith-based physical activity studies, and few have been conducted with Caucasian populations. Among baseball athletes, joint range of motion (ROM) is considered an important physical characteristic with respect to injury prevention and performance. Professional and intercollegiate programs employ various methods of flexibility training; however, to date, no literature exists with regard to the effect of a yoga-based training program. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of a sport-specific yoga program among NCAA Division I intercollegiate baseball players. Subjects (N=30, age 19.42 ±1.37 years) were assessed for shoulder joint (SH), hamstring (HS), and groin (GR) ROM and subsequently followed a 12-week, 2x/week yoga intervention. There are limited studies that deal with the acute and chronic effects that high collision sports have on neurocognitive function. This study used a standardized concussion assessment (SAC) test to examine the effects that participation in high school football and high school soccer has on athletes’ neurocognitive functions throughout a season.

Forty-six male high school athletes participated in this study: 30 football players, and 16 soccer players. Each athlete underwent baseline SAC testing and a variety of SAC tests three additional times throughout the duration of the season, approximately 3 weeks apart.

The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of different imagery ratios to physical practice needed to learn and perform a gymnastic floor routine. It was assumed that an increase in imagery ability would reflect positively on the floor routine performance. Twenty-seven school-aged, male and female, skilled gymnasts participated in the study. They were randomly separated into four experimental groups: two groups received three imagery sessions per week and two groups received one imagery session per week.
