Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) affects the lives of approximately 50% of all persons diagnosed with diabetes. Patients who are minorities, residents of rural communities, low income, or non-compliant with treatment, have a higher risk of developing DPN. The long-term effects interfere with the patient’s abilities to carry out activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).

Patients incur debt from medical expenses, depression from the inability to perform self- care, and became withdrawn because of their distorted body image.

Background: Substance use places a substantial burden on our communities, both economically and socially. In light of COVID-19, it is predicted that as many as 75,000 more people will die from alcohol and other substance use and suicide as a result of isolation, new mental health concerns, and various other stressors related to the pandemic. Several water safety organizations have attempted to improve reporting regarding lifeguard actions in order to better understand the characteristics of successful, non-fatal rescues. In 2003, a collective effort initiated the Lifeguard Rescue Reporting System, an online survey distributed to lifeguards and facility managers across the United States and Canada to better understand rescue actions performed in pools/spas, water parks, and open water areas. After seven years of data collection, the online survey accumulated data reflecting 1,676 rescue actions, collecting information including location, victim characteristics and outcome, rescuer characteristics and strategies, and other general circumstances. Dual and poly-tobacco and substance use are increasingly prevalent in youth and young adults. Current substance use prevention media efforts target addiction perceptions in young people; however, little is known about the perceived addictiveness of multiple substances among young people. The goal of the current study is to examine youth and young adults perceive addictiveness across several substances and the associations between addiction perceptions and substance use.
