Mindfulness-Based Intervention And Relapse Rates In Adults With A History Of Substance Use Disorder, Tamieko Ross-Anyaso
Mindfulness-Based Intervention And Relapse Rates In Adults With A History Of Substance Use Disorder, Tamieko Ross-Anyaso
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Substance abuse disorder (SUD) has become an increasingly prevalent community health problem worldwide, affecting individuals in all geographical regions regardless of age, race, sex, and socioeconomic status, despite decades of efforts to find a solution (Bowen et al., 2014). A lack of treatment engagement and substance‐misuse crisis calls attention to the effectiveness of relapse‐sensitive care and treatments.
PICOT: The question addressed in this evidence-based project was “ In adults over 18 years of age with substance use disorder (P), how does the effect of mindfulness-based treatment (I), compared with no mindfulness-based treatment (C), reduce the risk of relapse …
Nurse Retention In Workplace Adversity, Deborah Lewis
Nurse Retention In Workplace Adversity, Deborah Lewis
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Nurse turnover rate and lack of retention are issues that have an impact on safe patient care, patient mortality, quality outcomes, and patient experiences in the acute care units at the identified project setting. Turnover leads to excess labor utilization of overtime and increased hospital costs.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was (P) In acute care hospital nurses, how do (I) nurse retention strategies (C) compared with no nurse retention strategies (O) reduce nurses’ intention to leave and increase job satisfaction over (T) eight weeks?
Evidence: Twenty-one articles were reviewed that identified autonomy, recognition, …
Exploring Occupational Dysfunction And Occupational Performance For Youth In Homeless Shelters, Akio Ross
Exploring Occupational Dysfunction And Occupational Performance For Youth In Homeless Shelters, Akio Ross
Student Capstone Papers
The capstone project aims to explore and identify the role of occupational therapist in homeless youth shelters, to improve life skills necessary for independent living, and transition into the community of youths that occupy youth shelters. The proposed research project will fill the gap between occupational therapist, and youth shelters, by revealing barriers, while simultaneously developing and identifying a role for occupational therapist in homeless youth shelters.
The Impact Of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Techniques On Nurse Burnout In An Icu, Heather L. Vincent
The Impact Of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Techniques On Nurse Burnout In An Icu, Heather L. Vincent
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Burnout among nurses has been linked to turnover, negative patient safety and quality outcomes, and higher costs for institutions.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was, in ICU nurses (P), what was the impact of the use of MBSR techniques (I), versus the current state in which no MBSR techniques are practiced (C), on self-reported BO (O), over the course of eight weeks (T).
Evidence: A total of 14 studies were identified in the literature that directly support the implementation of this project. Themes from the literature show that mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques such as meditation, …
An Investigation Of Occupational Therapy Utilizing Sensory Modulation To Manage Co-Morbid Chronic Pain And Substance Use In Order To Promote Occupational Performance And Recovery, Claire Ruth
Student Capstone Papers
Background: Those with chronic pain have worse drug and alcohol treatment outcomes and higher rates of relapse compared to those without pain or with reduced pain (Ilgen et al., 2020).
Methods: A descriptive study was employed with the aim of determining what are the sensory processing pattens of those with co-morbid chronic pain and in recovery for substance use. All participants completed the Adolescent and Adult Sensory Profile, the Brief Pain Inventory, and the Personal Recovery Outcome Measure (PROM).
Results: From the preliminary findings, individuals with co-morbid chronic pain and substance use may have atypical sensory processing …
Analysis Of Occupational Therapy’S Role To Promote Healthy Sleep Participation To Support Caregivers Of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sophia N. Roman
Analysis Of Occupational Therapy’S Role To Promote Healthy Sleep Participation To Support Caregivers Of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sophia N. Roman
Student Capstone Papers
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) face sleep disturbances. Healthy sleep habits are essential for children with ASD and their caregivers to properly engage in their everyday lives. Occupational therapists are trained to evaluate clients in areas that contribute to sleep dysfunction and to focus on promoting optimal sleep performance. There is limited research on caregivers’ perceptions of their child’s sleep disturbances, these disturbances’ influence on occupational engagement, and whether occupational therapists have collaborated with caregivers of children with ASD to treat this area of occupation. Collecting data from caregivers by using a questionnaire can provide occupational therapy (OT) practitioners …
Occupational Therapy’S Role In Addressing Sexuality And Intimacy For Individuals With Progressive Neuromuscular Disorders, Lindsay N. Richards
Occupational Therapy’S Role In Addressing Sexuality And Intimacy For Individuals With Progressive Neuromuscular Disorders, Lindsay N. Richards
Student Capstone Papers
Individuals with progressive neuromuscular disorders (PND); specifically, Parkinson’s disease (PD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Huntington’s Disease (HD), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) often face physical, psychological, and social challenges related to sex and intimacy. Occupational therapy (OT) practitioners are experts in activity analysis and are equipped with unique knowledge of performance skills and client factors to address deficits in occupational performance.
Though there is literature presenting the effects of PND on sexual occupations, a gap exists as it relates to qualitative data from the perspective of the individual and their partners. A mixed-methods survey was conducted examining the lived experience of …
