(2021) Challenges To Interdisciplinary Behavioral Health Training During A Pandemic: A Qualitative Self-Review, Krystal Vaughn, George Hebert

This paper explores the new challenges that interdisciplinary health care training clinics have experienced for the respective disciplines of counseling and psychology amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous challenges among these disciplines has always included the differences in specialty areas, ethical codes; and practicum and internship requirements. This current qualitative self-review identified three emergent themes from a training/service delivery perspective: Cessation of In-person Training; Cessation of In-person Assessments and Therapy; and Certification Requirements for Telehealth. Background: Moving a wheelchair over a low threshold is an entry-level mobility skill. Observation is critical to the assessment and training of this skill. The primary objective of this exploratory pilot study was to determine if a difference between novice and expert visual attention allocation pattern was linked to the accuracy of rating skill performance and decision confidence.
Methods: Twelve expert occupational therapists and nine non-expert occupational therapy students observed 30 first-attempt recordings of able-bodied persons learning the low threshold skill. Randomized recordings included 10 recordings from each rating group of “pass,” “pass with difficulty" (pwd), and “fail.” …

Executive Summary
Background: Neurodiverse students often face many challenges within their classroom environment due to a mismatch of the environmental demands and the student’s unique processing. This mismatch is often not understood by school support staff which can lead to adverse student outcomes in academic achievement and graduation rates. Support staff are often undertrained and unsupported in meeting the complex needs of neurodiverse students and OTs are often underutilized in this deficit.

INTRODUCTION: Ventilatory threshold (VT) is where minute ventilation (VE) increases nonlinearly with increasing exercise intensity. Prior studies have shown that subjects can recognize VT by changes in breathing during exercise. Teaching recreational athletes to use VT as a training method could result in better quality training. PURPOSE: Determine if recreational athletes can accurately perceive changes in ventilation associated with VT during maximal exercise testing. METHODS: Subjects were recruited (n=20, age= 20.5 ± 1.7 yrs.) to participate in the study. Subjects performed a modified maximal treadmill protocol with gas analysis.
