For the service-learning practicum capstone, I assisted Dr. Charles Bernaccio and Tiffany Reagan on the media outreach (LinkedIn page) for the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling (CLRC) master’s program here at the University of Southern Maine.
The mission of the USM Rehabilitation Counseling (RC) specialty program is to promote quality rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities by:
(1) preparing qualified rehabilitation professionals;
(2) providing services to rehabilitation professionals and organizations; and
(3) sponsoring rehabilitation-related research and training.

Using a valid and reliable instrument to help identify and select an appropriate nurse preceptor supports the success of both the preceptor and the new nurse graduate. The 14-item Cotter Preceptor Selection Instrument was developed to assess attributes of potential preceptor candidates. Use of a robust and user-friendly instrument can provide nursing leadership with a consistent, measurable, and collaborative process for selecting preceptors.

Purpose: The structure of preoperative education programs used nationally for patients prior to total knee replacement (TKR) surgery has not been identified previously, thus hospitals across the United States lack a common standard for this preoperative education to ensure best patient outcomes. The purpose of this pilot survey study was to describe the content, providers, and delivery methods currently utilized to deliver preoperative education for total knee replacement in the United States. The primary purpose of this study was to craft and validate a set of core competencies necessary for an e-Helper to possess. A review of the literature guided the creation of the initial competencies. Following expert review, the competencies were revised and formatted into an online survey which was sent to respondents in four target groups: (a) school administrators who had adopted telepractice as a service delivery model; (b) SLPs experienced in telepractice within a school setting; (c) current e-Helpers, and (d) scholars experienced in telepractice.
