Since the 1980s, the federal government has developed strategies to eradicate homelessness in the US and its territories. The introduction of evidence-based practices like the Housing First Model helped decrease the number of people living homeless. Still, it continues to be a public health problem, especially among chronically homeless individuals, defined broadly as people with disabilities and substance abuse problems experiencing homelessness. Rehabilitation counselors are professionals specialized in serving individuals with disabilities. However, their role in programs identified as Housing First was unclear.

As of 2010, certified rehabilitation counselors (CRC) have been provided ethical guidelines addressing end-of-life care (EOL) service delivery for persons with disabilities. Due to the plethora of pertinent knowledge and skills sets needed to facilitate comprehensive EOL issues, it is vital to examine rehabilitation counselors’ self-perceived competence in facilitating EOL care service delivery. The study was conducted as a non-experimental exploratory design. Based on the study’s sample (N = 188), descriptive statistics reported 70% of counselors lacked education while 69% had not participated in EOL training. The purpose of this study was to examine job satisfaction in rehabilitation counselors who are Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRCs) practicing in rehabilitation settings and to identify the employment factors and work motivation factors that contribute to job satisfaction and intent to quit. Participants included in this study were obtained from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) list serve. Participants were from Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) Region 5: Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Of the 1695 emails that were sent to CRCs from RSA Region 5, 315 surveys were completed resulting in a response rate of 19%. The …
