A Phenomenological Study Of The Lived-Experiences Of Families Transitioning To Permanent Housing, Ellie Olsen, Samantha Ruhe, Ellen Brown, Courtney Zanni
A Phenomenological Study Of The Lived-Experiences Of Families Transitioning To Permanent Housing, Ellie Olsen, Samantha Ruhe, Ellen Brown, Courtney Zanni
Masters Theses
There is limited support and resources available for homeless individuals, resulting in limited opportunities to engage in meaningful occupations, therefore decreasing these individual's overall sense of well-being, social interactions, and health outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact family-centered interventions have on the lived experiences of families as they transition to permanent housing. The Occupational Self-Assessment (OSA) was used to determine important areas of occupation and was used to develop three intervention sessions. Case study methods were used and data was collected during the final interview session. Two main themes were identified: “Empowerment” and “Resolution.” This …
Visuomotor Adaptation During Asymmetric Walking, Charles Napoli
Visuomotor Adaptation During Asymmetric Walking, Charles Napoli
Masters Theses
Necessary for effective ambulation, head stability affords optimal conditions for the perception of visual information during dynamic tasks. This maintenance of head-in-space equilibrium is achieved, in part, by the attenuation of the high frequency impact shock resulting from ground contact. While a great deal of experimentation has been done on the matter during steady state locomotion, little is known about how head stability or dynamic visual acuity is maintained during asymmetric walking.
In this study, fifteen participants were instructed to walk on a split-belt treadmill for ten minutes while verbally reporting the orientation of a randomized Landolt-C optotype that was …
The Implications Of Yoga As A Coping Mechanism For Stress During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Ellie Hunter Madenberg
The Implications Of Yoga As A Coping Mechanism For Stress During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Ellie Hunter Madenberg
Masters Theses
Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic has been extremely devastating across the globe. In the United States specifically, Covid-19 has taken over 545,000 lives and climbing. Over the past year of the pandemic, the rate of mental health concerns has grown significantly. Yoga has been paralleled in growth throughout the course of pandemic with countless new yoga students and advanced students who have dove deeper into the yoga practice.
The study examined the perceived stress levels of yogis and using yoga as a leisure coping strategy for stress reduction during the Covid-19 pandemic. A survey was sent via email to yoga instructors …
The Psychosocial Outcomes Among Athletes And Youths With Disabilities, Coleen E. Martinez
The Psychosocial Outcomes Among Athletes And Youths With Disabilities, Coleen E. Martinez
Masters Theses
Background: Physical activity (PA) through sports participation can help people with disabilities (PWD) improve their health outcomes (physical, psychological and social). Children also participate in sports because it is fun. The majority of research has focused on the physical outcomes of PA. There is a national call to increase the research into the psychological benefits of PA among PWD.
Purpose: (1) To conduct a pilot study to utilize the Health through Sport Model to determine the effects of wheelchair basketball on physical self-perception and sport enjoyment in youth with disabilities. (2) To conduct a systematic review of research …
Adult Persistent Post-Concussion Syndrome: Occupational Therapy Practitioners’ Current State Of Practice, Megan Eisses, Megan Hicks, Megan Mitchell, Sabrina Vanderklipp
Adult Persistent Post-Concussion Syndrome: Occupational Therapy Practitioners’ Current State Of Practice, Megan Eisses, Megan Hicks, Megan Mitchell, Sabrina Vanderklipp
Masters Theses
BACKGROUND: Persistent post-concussion syndrome (PPCS) is a complex diagnosis involving symptoms that affect nearly all domains of occupational therapy (OT) for adults. Currently, there is a lack of clarity in PPCS symptoms and diagnosis criteria, as well as little research reflecting the best practice patterns of OT practitioners treating adults with PPCS. This study’s primary purpose was to conduct a survey to understand OT practitioners’ current state of practice for adult patients with PPCS, as well as their current knowledge of PPCS.
METHOD: This research project involves a cross-sectional design, mixed methods, 23-question survey that was distributed to OT practitioners …
The Acute Impact Of Stair Climbing On Vertical Jump Height, Matthew Grossman
The Acute Impact Of Stair Climbing On Vertical Jump Height, Matthew Grossman
Masters Theses
Vertical jump (VJ) is a strong determinant of explosive power in the trained and untrained population. There is agreement among the literature that vertical jump training can be improved through progression in specific training related to vertical jump. For example, plyometrics is a widely studied training method for increasing VJ, and has been generally accepted method for increasing VJ. Within the literature, training methods are continually being studied to improve athletic performance. Exploration of improvements outside of resistance training can provide further insight on enchancing athletic performance. The present study examined the acute impact of stair climbing (SC) on VJ. …
