Comparison Of Quantitative Analysis To Qualitative Analysis For Interpretation Of Lower‑Limb Lymphoscintigraphy, Edward Nganga, Khalid Makhdomi Jan 2019

Comparison Of Quantitative Analysis To Qualitative Analysis For Interpretation Of Lower‑Limb Lymphoscintigraphy, Edward Nganga, Khalid Makhdomi

Imaging & Diagnostic Radiology, East Africa

Qualitative analysis of lymphoscintigrams is subject to wide variability and may miss subtle differences in ilioinguinal uptake between normal and abnormal limbs. This study compared quantitative analysis to qualitative analysis of lower‑limb lymphoscintigraphy in diagnosing lymphedema. Fifty‑two lymphoscintigrams performed using standardized protocol, 99‑metastable technetium nanocolloid intradermal injection at the first interdigital space, were analyzed quantitatively. Fifty‑three normal and 51 abnormal limbs were analyzed. For each limb, a region of interest (ROI) was drawn around the injection site, and ilioinguinal nodes on the 1.5 h static images and the counts in these ROIs were recorded. Percentage ilioinguinal nodes uptake was then …

Introduction: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is an important adjunct in the staging of patients with melanoma. Preoperative lymphoscintigraphy (LS) with radiolabeled isotopes is essential to localize sentinel nodes for removal. Our study compared the effectiveness of Lymphoseek to standard sulfur colloids (SC) in patients with melanoma undergoing SLNB.

Methods: We queried our IRB-approved melanoma database to identify 370 consecutive patients who underwent SLNB from 2012-2016 with at least one year of follow up. There were 185 patients in each group. Data points included characteristics of the primary melanoma lymphoscintigraphy, and SLNB. Student’s t-test and Chi-Square were used to analyze …

Comparison Of Quantitative Analysis To Qualitative Analysis For Interpretation Of Lower Limb Lymphoscintigraphy, Edward Chege Nganga May 2015

Comparison Of Quantitative Analysis To Qualitative Analysis For Interpretation Of Lower Limb Lymphoscintigraphy, Edward Chege Nganga

Theses & Dissertations

Background: Lymphoscintigraphy is now the primary imaging modality used in determining a diagnosis in patients with suspected extremity lymphedema. However, analysis is mainly by visual qualitative analysis which is subjective and has a wide inter-observer variability. Subtle differences in ilioinguinal uptake between normal and abnormal limbs may be missed with visual qualitative analysis. This study seeks to compare quantitative analysis to qualitative analysis by computing percentage ilioinguinal nodes uptake at 1.5 hours.

Objectives: To compare quantitative analysis to qualitative analysis of lower limb lymphoscintigraphy in the diagnosis of lymphedema.

To determine the diagnostic accuracy of quantitative lymphoscintigraphy analysis.

Methodology: 52 …

99mtc-Nannocolloid Localization Of Lymphorenal Fistula Causing Chyluria, Maseeh Uz Zaman, Riffat Parveen Hussain, Khalil Ahmed Khan, Gufran Khan, M. Nadeem Ahmad Aug 2008

99mtc-Nannocolloid Localization Of Lymphorenal Fistula Causing Chyluria, Maseeh Uz Zaman, Riffat Parveen Hussain, Khalil Ahmed Khan, Gufran Khan, M. Nadeem Ahmad

Chyluria is an abnormal condition in which chyle appears in the urine because of a fistulous communication between the lymphatics and the urinary tract. It is not life-threatening and spontaneous regression is reported in 50% of cases. Lymphangiography has been the main imaging modality for localization of the site of fistula, but it is invasive and requires expertise. Lymphoscintigraphy using Tc-99m labelled colloid is a safe, non-invasive, reproducible technique, which bears less radiation exposure. A 67-year-old male presented with 7-month history of chyluria following a spinal surgery. Bilateral lower limb lymphoscintigram revealed sluggish lymph flow in the left lower limb …
