Introduction: ‘Quality’ is an inseparable component of healthcare. It focuses not only on care parameters but also in identifying the potential failures/ risks associated with the care process; thereby addressing them pro-actively before the occurrence of the loss. There are several quality tools available such as Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA) that helps in analyzing a process for identification of possible failures. This helps to find ways to avoid the occurrence of the failure or have a strategy to eliminate or minimize the risk. Using Drama Therapy To Foster Peer Support Among Nurse Leaders, Chyela Rowe

Expressive Therapies Dissertations

Organizational supports for nurses and nurse leaders are both inadequate to meet the needs and under-resourced. Medical Interpreters' Work Impact On Their Lives: Understanding Medical Interpreters' Work Experience, Nicholas M. Herrarte Smith

Senior Honors Projects, 2020-current

Medical interpreters in the US are crucial health workers that specialize in facilitating communication between non-English-speaking patients and English medical professionals. Thus, this study was aimed at gaining a better understanding on the impact that this line of work has on the lives of medical interpreters. For this study, a survey was created with questions regarding demographics, interpretation’s certification process, interpreter’s satisfaction/experience, and mental …

Ballad Health: Understanding Appalachia’S Regional Healthcare Monopoly, Meredith A. Bailey

Baker Scholar Projects

The Ballad Health merger of 2018, which combined the now 21 hospitals in the region under one organization, has impacted the healthcare landscape in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Historically, Appalachia has had to persevere through primary physician shortages, a lack of specialty care, geographic obstacles to accessing healthcare, challenges related to substance abuse, and much more. Since the merger of Mountain States Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System, little research has been done to assess the perceived impact the aggregation of providers has had on the population it serves. This study utilizes an online survey to better understand the …

The healthcare industry has undergone substantial changes that influence how hospitals evaluate success. Legislation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS.gov, 2023) that informs reimbursement levels of patient populations in all U.S. hospitals require organizations to focus on patient experiences, more specifically on scores from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey, referred to as HCAHPS (pronounced H-caps).
