For our senior Nursing Evidence-based practice project, we conducted our own research to evaluate the risks and benefits of animal-assisted intervention (AAI's) being used in intensive care units, in the hopes to encourage nurses and healthcare staff to implement these in patient care facilities.

Introdução: A doença renal crônica (DRC) possui uma prevalência de 10% entre os brasileiros. A presença de dois alelos de risco chamados G1 e G2 do gene da Apo lipoproteína L1 ( APOL1 ), mais frequente em indivíduos associados de ascendência africana e foram à DRC.

Introdução: Doenças crônicas não transmissíveis (DCNT) dificultam a cicatrização de feridas. A Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica (HAS), por exemplo, causa alterações microvasculares que geram hipóxia tecidual, inibindo a atividade fagocitária e possibilitando infecções por menor atividade leucocitária. Introdução: Consideradas cada vez mais um problema de saúde pública, às doenças metabólicas possuem como características complicações relacionadas com fatores comportamentais como dietas altamente calóricas, sedentarismo, estresse, tabagismo e consumo exagerado de álcool. Existe a possibilidade que alguma dessas causas sejam originadas no ambiente laboral. As mais relevantes encontradas nos trabalhadores são a Dislipidemia e o Diabetes Mellitus, caracterizadas pelo elevado nível de lipídios e por altas taxas de açúcar no sangue, respectivamente. Introduction and Background: Between 1999 and 2014 the number of patients in the labor and delivery that were on medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) quadrupled. The rate of unintended pregnancies in pregnant patients of mOUD is at a tremendous high due to inconsistencies in the use of reliable contraception in this population.

Purpose Statement: To reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and infants born with neonatal abstinence syndrome there is a need for prevention and required education for men and women in medication-assisted facilities.

This poster shares information on a human trafficking simulation that can be used in healthcare courses. It includes an overview of human trafficking, risk factors for victims, and a script that students follow to make decisions as a victim and see the choices this vulnerable population must make.

This project aimed to examine the current practice related to mental health and depression screenings in pediatric patients. The benefits of implementing screening in schools in identifying depression and suicide risks sooner were also considered. This project focused on the correlation between earlier mental health screening and identification of these mental health disorders earlier in the life of pediatric patients and suicide rates. Current, published literature notes mental health screening in the pediatric population in schools is an effective method to facilitate monitoring and early intervention in detecting a mental illness. Postpartum depression (PPD) occurs in 13-19% of women worldwide, and is a stigmatized medical condition affecting maternal and infantile long term outcomes. The purpose of this evidence-based practice project was to determine if women at high risk for PPD are affected by home visitation programs from discharge up to three years postpartum. CINHAL Ultimate, Google Scholar, and Medline databases were used. Current evidence supports the use of home-visitation programs for postpartum women to decrease the prevalence and the symptoms of PPD by allowing nurses access into homes to provide early intervention for PPD. Georgia Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Conference

The COVID-19 pandemic’s early vaccination stage required health department staff to work long, odd hours to accommodate the needs of Georgia residents. This presented a challenge since some health departments only have 2-3 full-time nurses. District 2 hired a pool of PRN nurses to cover significant gaps in workforce throughout multiple vaccination phases of the pandemic response. This additional workforce allowed District 2 to maximize number of vaccine doses given.

During later COVID vaccination phases (summer 2021 – present), PRNs allowed health departments to resume regular services alongside high vaccination capacity. With various funding sources, District 2 used the PRNs …
