Health equity arises from the social determinants of health. Access to culturally and linguistically competent health services is a major determinant of health. Despite health profession pipeline intervention efforts spanning more than 50 years, diversity in the health professions has not been achieved, and disparities in health among members of minority groups remain prevalent. Health profession pipeline programs came into existence to help grow minority representation among health professionals serving in underserved, disadvantaged, communities, where disparities in health are most prevalent.
