Twenty-nine laboratory-confirmed West Nile virus (WNV) encephalitis patients were bled serially so that WNV-reactive immunoglobulin (Ig) M activity could be determined. Clinicians should be cautious when interpreting serologic results from early season WNV IgM-positive patients.
