The health of women and babies is critical to creating a healthy world. Stratified data shows the overwhelming rates at which Blacks are affected more than Whites. Literature has shown that leveraging partnerships and community engagement are critical components of decision-making and can positively impact the health of communities. Through a direct observational study, the Community Coalition Action Theory was used to analyze the current structure of the March of Dimes Maternal Infant Healthy Equity Coalition. Background: Preterm birth rates are a long-standing issue that has yet to be adequately addressed and prioritized. Nationally about 1 in every 10 infants are born prematurely in the United States. In the state of North Carolina, 1 in every 9 live births was preterm in the year 2020. The aim of the study was to determine the strategies organizations use in North Carolina to reduce preterm births in comparison to the CDC’s Five Strategy framework and to understand how the organizations address health equity and measure/evaluate the success of their initiatives.

Background: The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children. Preterm birth remains the second leading cause of infant mortality following birth defects but there is a dearth of research on characteristics of WIC clients who are at risk of preterm birth. Strategies to prevent preterm birth in multifetal gestation remain a high-priority in the United States. In women with a history of spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) and singleton gestation, transvaginal cervical length (TVCL) surveillance and subsequent treatment is associated with a reduction in spontaneous preterm birth, however, there is limited data on the role of TVCL surveillance in twin gestation. The goal of this study is to determine if an association exists between TVCL and spontaneous preterm birth in twin gestations.
