Sexuality is a recognized human right as it influences mental, social and emotional wellbeing. Despite this, individuals with intellectual or developmentally delays (ID/DD) rarely receive the necessary sexual education. ID/DD persons are also at an increased risk for sexual abuse, further demonstrating the strong need for education. A natural setting in which to receive unbiased and informative sexual health information is through their medical provider. The purpose of this research was to examine current clinic standards, education, and perceptions of medical providers in regards to sexual education for ID/DD adolescents. Analysis Of Policy Changes Aimed At Breastfeeding Promotion As Part Of The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program For Women, Infants, And Children (Wic): Making It Work For Michigan, Elizabeth L. Macquillan

In 2011, changes to the specific type, timing, and amount of food benefits to mothers in the WIC program were rolled out nationwide. These were the first substantive changes since 1980 and were designed to increase breastfeeding initiation rates and extend breastfeeding duration among WIC program participants. Effectiveness of the program changes have been mixed and variable by geographic area of the U.S., however. In Michigan, breastfeeding duration has not increased. This analysis examines the implementation of the national policy change at the state level for Michigan and suggests additions to program to specifically target duration breastfeeding by Michigan mothers.

Physical inactivity is a leading cause of death in the United States (U.S.), and is a public health priority. The majority of individuals do not engage in regular physical activity (PA). Hispanics have the highest inactivity rates (51.3%) in the U.S. (HealthyPeople.gov, 2012). This paper reports a gap in knowledge concerning factors that affect PA. Data was collected in Kent and Ottawa counties in Michigan, with Hispanic mothers (N=79) and their daughters (N=79). This study supports the relationship among societal norms, exercise self-efficacy and activity related affect, on commitment to a plan of PA. Theorized relationships appear to be more …
