Rates of HPV-related head and neck cancers are increasing across the nation and more specifically, there has been a significant increase in the state of Kentucky. This study focuses on the implementation of a mobile clinic saliva-rinse screening program. This program will be set up at UK Athletics Men's basketball and football games in hopes of recruiting middle aged men ages 45-60, who are the target audience of the study. Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects 6-12% of United States women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and fall into high-risk groups for screening guidelines put out by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Guidelines further suggest that an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) be used for diabetes screening in women with PCOS as opposed to an A1C or fasting plasma glucose test. Diabetes mellitus, commonly referred to as “diabetes”, is currently at epidemic proportions in the United States as its prevalence has drastically increased over the past several decades. The percentage of Americans with diagnosed diabetes has risen from 0.93 percent of the population in 1958 to 10.5 percent in 2018 (ADA, 2021). Diabetes also impacts record numbers of Kentucky residents.

Kentucky is a disparate state, ranking as one of the top states in incidence, prevalence, and mortality for both opioid use disorders (OUD) and cancer. Due to the high volume of both diseases in the state, there is a rising concern about the overlap of these two populations. Cancer and its’ treatment are known to cause chronic pain, defined as daily pain lasting 3 months or longer. Generally, chronic pain patients of any type are known to experience higher rates of opioid misuse (21-28%) and opioid dependence (8-12%) than the general population (4.1%, 0.9% respectively). Background: Tuberculosis early screening and diagnosis are cost-effective strategies for infection control. Tuberculosis elimination which is aimed for 2030 requires that both latent tuberculosis and active disease be fully treated. This study measures the tuberculosis screening rates and treatment completion rates among the international students at the University of Kentucky between 2016 and 2018.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included all J1 and F1 student visa holders enrolling from 2016 fall to 2017 fall. To accommodate the nine months treatment completion, the cohort period overlapped to 2018. Data were provided by the University Health Services and the sample size …

This program involves a partnership among eight primary care clinics in the Buffalo Trace Area Development District (BTADD) of Kentucky and proposes implementing a mailed Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT), or FIT Pack, program to increase colorectal cancer screening (CRCS) rates in this region. Mailing FIT tests to eligible patients is an evidence-­‐based program that has been shown to increase CRCS among patients included in studies. The program will occur at the clinic level. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in this country, but 33% of these deaths could be prevented by screening. While colonoscopy is an effective screening tool, it is expensive, invasive, and prone to encounter considerable patient resistance. An alternative is to first screen those at-risk using at-home fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kits. This study determined factors associated with the return of these kits distributed by Kentucky CancerLink, a non-profit organization, and its affiliates to participants in a colon cancer prevention program.

Purpose: The purpose of this project was to evaluate provider compliance with documentation of smoking history and, if criteria met, referral for lung cancer screening as recommended by the United States Preventive Services Task Force in 2013.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted using an electronic medical record (EMR) at a large, rural community family practice clinic. Patients meeting inclusion criteria of having a smoking history (current or past) of 30 pack years, aged 55 to 80 years, and no history of lung cancer diagnosis were included for randomization.
