Synthesis Of Novel Targeted Drug Delivery Systems For Cancer Therapy, Antonio Clementi May 2008

Synthesis Of Novel Targeted Drug Delivery Systems For Cancer Therapy, Antonio Clementi

Masters

One of the most important goals of pharmaceutical science is local izing the pharmacological activity of the drug at the site of action. Drug delivery systems - are. molecular tools which without undesired interaction at other sites target a specific drug receptor. In this work a· novel folate-cyclodextrin conjugate was synthesised for potential use as a drug delivery system in cancer therapy. Folate was directly covalently bound to an amino derivative of p-Cyclodextrin with a view to decreasing the polydispersity of the carrier system. Ultimately the cyclodextrin cavity will be used to transport drugs to the site of action. This …

Resource Pack On Curriculum Design And Assessment To Promote Effective Learning., Christine O'Connor Jan 2008

Resource Pack On Curriculum Design And Assessment To Promote Effective Learning., Christine O'Connor

Other resources

This resource pack is an overview of current considerations for academics designing programmes for third level education. The changing demographic of third level students along with employers’ demands has resulted in programme development with a focus on skills basis (Hyslop-Margison, 2001) to support a knowledge based society. The rationale behind the changes in curriculum design is introduced and further focus is emphasised in the areas of curriculum design models, assessment models and evaluation models. Examples of innovative curricula and assessment models in third level chemistry education will be incorporated during the pack which may be applied across other disciplines.

The Mechanism Of Silver Dissolution For Biomedical Devices And Hygienic Coating Applications., Yanmei Ma Jan 2008

The Mechanism Of Silver Dissolution For Biomedical Devices And Hygienic Coating Applications., Yanmei Ma

Doctoral

This work focuses on the mechanism of silver dissolution for biomedical and hygienic coating applications. The research work began from the investigation of silver dissolution behaviour from pure silver and silver-platinum alloys in solutions with or without chloride using the technique of cyclic volammetry (CV). A zero resistance amperometry (ZRA) measurement was carried out to study the effect of platinum on the silver dissolution behaviour in 0.89%wt. NaCI solution. The mechanism of silver dissolution from pure silver and silver-platinum alloys in 0.89%wt. NaCI solution was proposed by an equivalent circuit model under the investigation of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). It …
