Development Of An Lc-Esi-Ms/Ms Method For Determination Of A Novel Pyrrolomycin (Mp-1) And Application To Pre-Clinical Adme Studies, Wafaa N. Aldhafiri Aug 2020

Development Of An Lc-Esi-Ms/Ms Method For Determination Of A Novel Pyrrolomycin (Mp-1) And Application To Pre-Clinical Adme Studies, Wafaa N. Aldhafiri

Theses & Dissertations

A rapid, selective, and sensitive liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed and validated for quantitation of a novel Pyrrolomycin (MP-1) in mouse plasma. MP-1 was extracted from plasma utilizing a structural analog (PL-3) as the internal standard (IS). Analyte separation was achieved using a Waters Acquity UPLC®BEH C18 column (1.7 µm, 100 x 2.1 mm) protected with Acquity UPLC C18 guard column. Mobile phase consisted of 0.1% acetic acid in water (10%) and methanol (90%) at a total flow rate of 0.25 mL/min. The mass spectrometer was operated at unit resolution in the multiple reaction …

Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Levels In Children With Mild And Severe Atopic Asthma, Rhoda Ndinda Masaku Jan 2020

Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Levels In Children With Mild And Severe Atopic Asthma, Rhoda Ndinda Masaku

Theses & Dissertations

Background: Asthma is a chronic respiratory illness affecting an estimated 334 million people worldwide, including 14% of the total pediatric population. It results in significant morbidity, and therefore the etiologies and risk factors associated with asthma are of great interest. Serum 25- hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) has substantial immunomodulatory effects on the innate immune system. It reduces the probability of viral respiratory infections and asthma exacerbations by potentiating the anti-inflammatory action of corticosteroids.

Objectives: This study was conducted to determine if there was a difference in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels between children with mild and severe atopic asthma and explored the …

Evaluation For Association Between Maternal Microbiota And Development Of Necrotizing Enterocolitis Or Gram-Negative Bacteremia In Preterm Infants, Mei Chi Quek Jan 2020

Evaluation For Association Between Maternal Microbiota And Development Of Necrotizing Enterocolitis Or Gram-Negative Bacteremia In Preterm Infants, Mei Chi Quek

Theses & Dissertations

Background: Preterm birth is the leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. There is a need for a better understanding of the correlation of vaginal microbiota with adverse preterm outcomes. Our study aimed to explore how the vaginal microbiota influences the outcome of the preterm infants, determine whether fecal microbiota in premature infants differs from that in term infants, and explore the microbiota pattern in preterm neonates who received multiple antibiotics.

Method: A prospective cohort design was used to enroll 33 women admitted in spontaneous labor between 25 to 36 weeks, and 33 controls matched for age and parity …
