Objective: To assess the compliance of tracheal suctioning practices against the standard guidelines of a tertiary care hospital, with regard to the participants’ professional characteristics.
Methods: Using cross sectional study design, forty health care professionals (HCPs) were assessed twice, using a quantitative structured observational design, for tracheal suctioning practices, in one of the surgical care units of the tertiary care hospital. Tracheal suctioning policy which was used as a tool, its inter-rater reliability was tested and each step showed the Kappa value of 0.65 to 1.000. Of the 29 patients, 17(58.6%) were men and 12(41.3%) were women. The overall mean age at presentation was 29.6+/-4.4 years. The authors report the case of a 4-year boy who required anaesthetic and surgical care during LASER excision of laryngeal papillomatosis. He presented with hoarseness and stridor and underwent emergency tracheostomy after confirmation of laryngeal papillomas on CT scan. He required LASER treatment under general anaesthesia with a requirement of paediatric LASER-safe endotracheal tube but unfortunately, this was not available in the country. Balanced anaesthesia technique using inhalational anaesthetic, muscle relaxant and narcotic is used with modifications. A 56-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of progressively increasing neck swelling, dysphagia and hoarseness of voice. CT scan revealed multi-nodular goitre and also showed a lesion in the supraglottis. It also showed another lesion in the supraglottis. Kimura's disease (KD) is a rare, unusual occurrence, predominantly seen in Asian men, and poses a diagnostic challenge, often manifesting with allergic, eosinophilic hyperplasia, and nonspecific lymphadenitis. A 39-year-old man presented with mobile, well circumscribed, facial and neck swelling. His earlier biopsy showed a reactive lymph node hyperplasia on ultrasound neck and was suggestive of lipomatosis. As definitive diagnosis could not be made, the patient was planned for excision and biopsy. PURPOSE:

To assess and evaluate the usefulness of 7 morphological measurements of the acetabulum in establishing the prevalence of acetabular dysplasia in the Singaporean population.

METHODS:

Standardised plain anteroposterior radiographs of 522 hip joints of 261 asymptomatic patients (mean age, 60 years; range, 16-99 years) were evaluated. The 7 morphological measurements were centre-edge angle, acetabular angle, depth-to-width ratio, roof obliquity, extrusion index, lateral subluxation, and peak-to-edge distance.

RESULTS:

19 (7.3%) patients were acetabular dysplastic (centre-edge angle of <20 >degrees). The mean centre-edge angle was 31.2 degrees (range, 5-52 degrees), acetabular angle 39.46 degrees (range, 10-58 degrees), depth-to-width ratio 0.32, roof …
