Background: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNTs) are rare malignant soft tissue sarcomas that have an incidence of about 0.001 %. MPNTs typically occur in individuals who have neurofibromatosis or secondary to radiation therapy and rarely occur sporadically. We present a case of a previously healthy 56-year-old gentleman who was diagnosed with MPNTs.

Case: A healthy 56-year-old gentleman presented with worsening LLQ abdominal pain for 6 months. Associated symptoms included bloating, LLE swelling, early satiety for the past 2 months, and a 5-10lb unintentional weight loss. Matrix stiffness is a mechanical characteristic of the extracellular matrix (ECM) that increases from the tumor core to the tumor periphery in a gradient pattern in a variety of solid tumors and can promote proliferation, invasion, metastasis, drug resistance, and recurrence. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a rare subpopulation of tumor cells with self-renewal, asymmetric cell division, and differentiation capabilities. CSCs are thought to be responsible for metastasis, tumor recurrence, chemotherapy resistance, and consequently poor clinical outcomes. The perinucleolar compartment (PNC) is a small nuclear body that plays important role in tumorigenesis. PNC prevalence correlates with poor prognosis and cancer metastasis. Its expression in pediatric Ewing sarcoma (EWS) has not previously been documented. In this study, we analyzed 40 EWS tumor cases from Caucasian and Hispanic patients for PNC prevalence by immunohistochemical detection of polypyrimidine tract binding protein and correlated the prevalence with dysregulated microRNA profiles. BACKGROUND: Hemangioblastoma of the central nervous system is an uncommon benign neoplasm, with about 25% of cases in patients with von Hippel-Lindau disease. The incidence of metastasis is rare, particularly in patients without von Hippel-Lindau disease. We report a case of hemangioblastoma with leptomeningeal dissemination as a late recurrence.

CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old Caucasian man with a history of World Health Organization grade I hemangioblastoma of the cerebellar vermis underwent gross total resection in 1997.
