Research Amidst The Pandemic, Howard Burris
Research Amidst The Pandemic, Howard Burris
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Cancer patients need access to promising investigational therapies, available only through clinical trials, and the emergence of COVID-19 and the resulting pandemic became an emerging threat to fulfilling that need. Many academic medical centers were pausing their clinical research programs, diverting their resources and sheltering their teams. Sarah Cannon, the Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare, made the decision to stay safe, but stay the course.

Introduction: Lymphadenopathy is a common physical finding often associated with an infectious etiology. We present a case of a patient with generalized cervical and supraclavicular lymphadenopathy diagnosed with a rare malignancy. Health care providers should be aware of some uncommon historical or physical examination findings that warrant further investigation.
Clinical Findings: A 16-year-old female presented to the emergency department with 3 days of a fever, congestion and sore throat with swelling around the jaw. Her physical examination findings included bilateral mandibular swelling and generalized cervical lymphadenopathy with palpable supraclavicular lymph nodes.
Outcomes: Complete blood count showed pancytopenia with a white …

Background: Neuroendocrine tumors are a rare finding in the gallbladder. The incidence of this entity in the gallbladder is roughly 1.13 cases per 100,000 in the US, with a steady increase in the last decade. Gallbladder neuroendocrine tumors are generally asymptomatic; the majority of cases have been reported as incidental findings in specimens, resected due to secondary symptomatology, such as chronic cholecystitis. Treatment strategies are limited, in part due to the often advanced stage in which this disease presents. Furthermore, there is a restricted utility of diagnostic tools for early detection; these factors contribute to the poor prognosis of this …

West Florida Division Virtual Research Day 2020
In the U.S., excluding melanoma, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths.1
Cigarette smoking is the number one risk factor and is linked to 80-90% of lung cancer deaths.2
Low-dose Computerized Tomography has been shown to reduce lung cancer deaths by 20% in randomized control trials and observational studies.4
The U.S. Preventative Task Force recommends annual screening for lung cancer with low-dose computerized tomography (LDCT) in adults ages 55-80 years of age who:
- Have a 30 pack-year smoking history and
- Currently smoke or
- Have quit within the past 15 years.

P 154. CASE REPORT: AN ISOLATED DERMATOLOGIC REACTION TO ISOSULFAN BLUE DYE AFTER LUMPECTOMY Presenter: Micaela Moen MD | Grand Strand Medical Center Moen MR, Pahlkotter M, Nicholson G, Pinnola A Introduction: The use of isosulfan blue dye for sentinel lymph node mapping in breast cancer is considered routine (1). An array of adverse side effects from this dye have been described in the literature (2-3). Here we describe an atypical isolated dermatologic reaction. A 79 year old female with history of hypothyroidism, GERD, hypercholesterolemia, iron deficiency anemia who was found to have infiltrating ductal carinoma after a core biopsy …
