Background/Purpose: The purpose of this literature review is to determine how a past history of sexual abuse impacts labor and birth and what strategies can be used to help mitigate retraumatization. The desire is that this review will encourage further studies and the creation of guidelines and interventions to be used in maternal care settings. Theoretical Framework: The Neuman Systems Model is a theoretical framework utilized in this paper.
