Implementing a fall prevention program is imperative in acute healthcare settings. Falls are one of the top reported events that occur in hospitals and it is a patient safety concern that requires the implementation of evidence-based practices to reduce falls. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey given to patients after discharge from an inpatient unit is a validate tool used to determine the level of patient experience. Organizations across the country, including the Northern California Academic Medical Center, have implemented many initiatives aimed at improving these scores. HCAHPS scores for the hematology/oncology unit at this medical center remain low even after previous education efforts.
