Introduction
This women’s day and overnight center has over fifty-five beds for single adult women experiencing homelessness and provides two meals a day. Residents also have access to bathrooms, showers, laundry, personal storage lockers, and group activities. Other services provided are community resources, such as housing assistance, and a clinic next door.
Seattle Pacific University (SPU) students were able to get to know these ladies and observe their attitudes and behaviors, and they discovered the need for coping strategies and community. This article is a nexus of research, personal journaling reflections, and mandala creation from the authors own journals and focuses on the use of Mandalas as part of a reflective practice journaling process. Attention to mandala usage within reflective practice considering depth interiority, engaging and sharing with others. Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life is the recommended guideline, and the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding is a top priority for both national and international health organizations. The benefits of breastfeeding to both mother and baby reduces the burden of health disparity and promotes long-term healthful outcomes. Nursing is considered both science and art. Artful nursing has been essential for holistic nursing practice since the time of Nightingale, but it is getting neglected and has been lately limited to nursing literature (Gramling, 2004). This qualitative study seeks to gain an understanding of the perceptions of active nurses in Pakistan about nursing art and yields four major themes: artful nursing is embedded in humane responsiveness, artful nursing has healing power, artful nursing is a satisfying experience, and artful nursing is invisible in nursing practice. The relief of pain is an essential element of nursing practice. Nursing has begun to successfully use art to assess and reduce pain among hospitalized children, surgical patients, and oncology patients. Structured art projects have been used to provide distraction from pain and patient drawings have allowed nurses to assess pain. This project employed grounded theory and thematic analysis to uncover significant concepts in the artists' statements. The Roy adaptation model and Saunders' total pain theory provided the project theoretical framework. The artistic statements and the art of chronic pain patients were examined using thematic analysis to identify recurrent themes. …
