The Christian of today has the weighty task of discerning biblical truth in the midst of widely varying perspectives on every matter imaginable—especially in the healthcare setting. This essay aims to bring clarity to this mission by outlining the basic content of a biblical worldview, the defining characteristics of the nursing profession, and how the Christian with a biblical worldview approaches two specific areas of contention within the nursing profession.

Problem: The USP General Chapter <800> guidelines protect healthcare workers from hazardous drugs (HD) and are enforceable by hospital regulatory organizations. Hospitals should increase their safe handling and administration of these drugs to be compliant and protect their workers. This quality improvement project aimed to improve nurse compliance with the safe handling of USP <800> drugs on the medical-surgical microsystem within 16 weeks.

Abstract

Problem: Colorectal cancer is one of the leading cancer deaths in the United States. The Psychiatric Inpatient Unit has a colorectal cancer screening compliance rate of 40% compared to the statewide average of 80%.

Context: The Psychiatric Inpatient Unit is a 58-bed inpatient intermediate care facility mental health program in Northern California. Upon review of the EMR, most PIU nurses give verbal instructions and patient education on colorectal cancer screenings when due. Still, no printed handout was provided to the patients upon review of the EMR.

Background: Inpatient, staff nurse burnout negatively impacts nurses’ mental and physical health, hospital nurse retention and turnover, and patient care. The Stress First Aid for Health Workers program attempts to bolster resilience and subsequently reduce burnout among mental health nurses in this project.

Gaining IV access is this first step into accurate, timely diagnosis and interventions of patients. Nurses are typically the first medical professional a patient sees. If the nurse can establish IV access as early as possible this will lead to faster interventions faster diagnostic results and better management for patients and ultimately better patient outcomes. Ultrasound guided IV can increase first attempt success rates leading to decreased painful IV insertions by multiple nurses. Quality discharge teaching prepares patients and families to transition safely from hospital to home. Technology can enhance and support quality discharge teaching by promoting patient family engagement during the transition. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to explore clinical nurses' experience with using Engaging Parents in Education for Discharge, an iPad application to guide quality discharge teaching. Twelve nurses at a large Midwestern Children's Hospital participated in small focus groups after use of the Engaging Parents in Education for Discharge application and completed a questionnaire on their perception of the acceptability and feasibility of the app. Findings revealed …

This study explores the knowledge and perceptions of the newborn hearing screening (NBHS) program from the perspective of nurses and nursing support staff. Registered nurses and nursing support staff (n = 84) completed a digitally administered survey that queried their understanding of JCIH guidelines, perceptions around NBHS administration, and parental anxiety. The results demonstrated that while most respondents felt comfortable and confident about NBHS administration, there was a significant difference in their understanding of appropriate screening milestones compared to JCIH recommendations. Participants further demonstrated an interest in additional learning opportunities related to the NBHS.

In New Brunswick, there are a range of culturally informed health and social services being offered within First Nations communities and by Indigenous organization that operate outside of reserves. Some of these services and organizations rely on support from non-Indigenous allies to meet the needs of their community members.

In the local department, pre-pilot dialysis adequacy data was housed in a spreadsheet with manually entered, month-old data, inaccessible to clinic staff. The inoperability of the local QAPI workbook and EHR as well as data inaccessibility to staff resulted in missed opportunities to measure Kt/V. Based on the synthesis of evidence, dashboards have been utilized in a variety of interdisciplinary clinical settings with positive outcomes in addressing patient care gaps. Objectives: This review explores evidence-based methods of increasing cultural awareness in pre-licensure nursing students during cultural immersion experiences (CIEs).

Design: A literature review was conducted in March of 2022.

Data sources: Databases employed included CINAHL and MEDLINE. The search strategy included publication dates between 2017 and 2022, English-only transcripts, and full-text references from academic journals, dissertations, and books.

Review methods: The review assessed for quality by searching relevant articles for bias and ensuring each study was from an accredited journal. Editorials and opinion pieces were omitted.

Purpose: Becoming and being a nurse is vaguely conceptualized, so it is important for nurses to understand the defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, model cases, and empirical referents of professional identity with the aim of better understanding the process of its formation.

Method: Walker and Avant’s (2005) method is used to guide this concept analysis of professional identity.

In addressing the potential for a creative writing practice to serve as an effective intervention against nurse burnout, we ask the following research question: In RNs who have practiced between 2-10 years, does participation in a creative writing program decrease burnout symptoms compared to nurses who do not participate within a time frame of one year. Healthcare organizations must respond by implementing evidenced-based mental health initiatives to increase staff coping skills to reduce stress and emotional exhaustion (Galanis et al., 2021). A morbidity and mortality report made by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on the impact of telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic throughout 2020 noted several instances in which telemedicine tools had contributed to improved patient outcomes, including: increasing the availability of care to patients otherwise left with little access to health care, decreasing unnecessary patient visits, and reduced disease exposure to patients and staff directly at risk (CDC, 2020).
