Parent And Child Anxiety Evaluated During An Early Period Of The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Mixed-Methods Study, Karla M. Abela, Darlene Acorda, Stanley Cron, Geri Lobiondo-Wood

Purpose: The objective of this study was to explore parent and child anxiety during the pandemic. Unlike previous pandemics, measures implemented to prevent the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been much more limiting.

Methods: An explanatory convergent mixed-methods design was used to describe anxiety of children 9–17 years of age and their parents during August–October 2020. Adult and child versions of State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were used to examine levels as measured on STAI’s state-anxiety subscale. Web-based interviews with a subset of patients were conducted qualitatively to analyze anxiety-related themes.

Abstract

Epilepsy is the most frequent, chronic, neurological condition in childhood, impacting 0.5 to 1% of the population. Documented learning problems associated with childhood epilepsy include memory problems, attention deficits, reading difficulties, and processing speed abnormalities. Epilepsy also impacts psychological health with poor self-esteem, a high incidence of bullying, and poor school performance. The Every Student Succeeds Act identifies the school nurse as a leader in chronic disease management; advocating for students to receive the resources and support they need to achieve academic success. The large Midwestern school system, studied in this capstone project, has 804 known students with epilepsy. …

Purpose:

Priority settings are important to plan and direct future research. The aim of this study was to identify the top ten pediatric and child health nursing research priorities from the perspectives of consumers, community, and healthcare professionals in Western Australia.

Design and methods:

This study used an adapted James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership design with three phases. 1) A planning workshop to inform a survey. 2) A survey using five open-ended-questions distributed between October 2020 and January 2021 through social media and healthcare professionals' emails. Background: Every day in America children, are injured or killed from the accidental shooting of firearms. Additionally, few households with children report storing all guns unloaded and locked up. Recent evidence supports education on safe firearm storage as an effective intervention in promoting firearm safety in families with children. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of family-centred educational interventions on the anxiety, pain and behaviours of children and adolescents (three to 19 years old) and their parents’ anxiety during the perioperative journey.

Design: Systematic review of effectiveness and meta-analysis.

Data sources: MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, SciELO and Sources of unpublished studies OpenGrey, Open Access Theses and Dissertations, and RCAAP – Portugal were systematically searched from January 2007 to April 2021 for available articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
