This article describes the result of an academic-practice partnership between a School of Nursing (SON) and a University Medical Center (UMC) for the purpose of promoting BSN education in response to the Institute of Medicine’s recommendation that 80% of RNs hold a baccalaureate degree or higher by 2020. Background: As obesity affects different dimensions of health, psychosocial wellbeing of patients can be predicted to significantly improve after bariatric surgery.

Method: This qualitative study focused on determining the experience of patients who underwent bariatric surgery and the psychosocial impact of it on their daily lives and provides nurses with detailed information regarding patients’ experience. While some of these outcomes were in line with the literature, they have also revealed new aspects and provided deeper understanding regarding individuals’ experiences.

Background:The use of ISBAR handover principles assists in enabling the provision of best care to perioperative patients1. Reviews of post-operative handover research studies confirm the positive association between the quality of handovers and the decrease in adverse patient events2,3. Other reviews identify that globally handovers can be highly unpredictable and unreliable3–6. As a registered nurse, she specialized in critical care nursing and eventually enrolled in the Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner master’s program in Purdue University’s School of Nursing in 2016. Upon graduation in May 2018, Rexanna has planned to focus on primary health care. The service-learning project provided primary care clinical experience, while meeting the needs of an underserved older adult population. Faith Community Nursing sites were recently integrated into a Community/Public Health Nursing course at a traditional Catholic baccalaureate college in New England. Junior and senior nursing students were randomly assigned to spend 10 clinical days at a site for their clinical experience. Prevention of pressure injuries (PIs) in pediatric patients is an important nurse-sensitive quality goal. The PI rate at a large urban pediatric hospital triggered a call to action by the Chief Nursing Officer to establish a Hospital Acquired PI (HAPI) Task Force which identified the Skin Champion program as a key improvement strategy. The purpose of this study was to identify high-priority problems experienced by individuals during the second and third month after discharge from an acute care facility for heart failure. This descriptive, exploratory study, an extension of a previous analysis that examined high-priority problems in the first month, comprised 19 participants who were assigned to an intervention group that received a randomized, 12-week-pilot coping partnership (COPE-HF) intervention. A trained research nurse provided the intervention, and participants used a standard list to identify high-priority heart failure-related problems. Case studies are a valuable instructional tool frequently used in nursing to allow students to analyze clinical problems based on real-world scenarios. This study examines the use of the Realizeit adaptive platform to create case study scenarios for pathophysiology, a course required in the undergraduate nursing curriculum. The data gathered as students progressed through the adaptive content--time on task, number of times cases accessed, and scores on each case--provided valuable information on student behavior and engagement with the three case studies. Clinical practice are an important component of undergraduate nursing education and involve clinical nurse educators who are primarily responsible for teaching student nurses in that context. Twelve nurse educators who taught in the clinical arena participated in this grounded theory study. These participants taught in a number of undergraduate nursing programs in a large metropolitan city in Ontario, Canada. A mixed methods design using a cross-sectional survey was used to describe participants’ experiences of an experiential workshop entitled Building Bridges Through Understanding the Village. The Building Bridges workshops were held at a university located in Western Canada in 2016 with 213 attendees. Informed by Indigenous epistemology, cultural safety, and Kolb’s experiential learning theory, a student-led team comprised of undergraduates, graduates, and faculty members planned, implemented, and evaluated an arts-based experiential workshop. Given the current health care climate, it is critical for nurse educators to provide learning opportunities for students to collaborate with leaders in the community to provide much-needed services to vulnerable populations. We developed, implemented, and evaluated a process for vision screenings and referrals to a local eye center for low-income, immigrant women over three years in an urban setting in the United States. This is a report on the program, including the challenges faced by the faculty and lessons learned by the nursing students.
