This research study was a quasi-experimental one designed to investigate the effects of touch on responsive behaviors of confused elderly nursing home residents. This study is based on Neuman's Systems Model of Nursing and examines the effects of touch as a means of communication between the confused elderly person and the environment. The population included all confused elderly residents in a nursing home in the southeastern region of the United States. This was a correlational study designed to investigate the relationship of stress and menstrual symptomatology in college-age women. The null hypothesis stated there would be no significant correlation between stress levels and menstrual symptomatology in women attending college. Data were collected from 90 subjects between the ages of 18 and 40 years who were attending college and who currently experience menses. All of the subjects were given the Menstrual Distress Questionnaire, Form C (MDQ) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Form Y-1 (STAX). This study was undertaken to determine the degree of relationship in perceptions held by three health care administrative groups between the desirable and actual role functions of the hospital nursing service administrator. This descriptive study surveyed hospital Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), and Nursing Service Administrators (NSAs) in 100 randomly selected general hospitals, and chairpersons of graduate programs in nursing service administration. Summary
Chapter three described the methodology for the study of the effect of peer counseling therapy sessions on the level of self-esteem of the substance abuse student. The Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale will be used to collect data from two groups of substance abuse adolescent students. One group consists of substance abuse adolescents participating in peer counseling therapy sessions. Treatment of the data will include descriptive statistics for both demographic and study variables, and the independent T-tests between the groups' total raw subscale scores and independent T-test and chi-square tests on demographic variables.

The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to determine the effects of reminiscence therapy on social interaction in a group of institutionalized elders. The researcher hypothesized that there would be no significant differences over time in social interactions as institutionalized elders participated in a reminiscence group. The sample was comprised of three elderly females in a nursing home in North Mississippi. The subjects were observed for behaviors indicating interaction during eight sessions. The purpose of this study was to determine if the perceptions of associate degree nursing students regarding the teaching effectiveness of faculty were significantly different when their faculty were active or inactive in clinical nursing practice. A 28-item teacher effectiveness rating scale was utilized to measure teacher effectiveness. After the questionnaire was developed, a pilot study was conducted with faculty and nursing students in order to improve the questionnaire's clarity and validity.

The purposes of this study. were: to explore job-related perceptions of stress in a group of military critical care nurses; and to determine if differences in anxiety and stress levels existed between nurses working in coronary care (CCCU) and medical/surgical intensive care (ICU) settings using the State/Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Questionnaire of Stressful Factors in Intensive Care. A free response question and a force-response checklist were also used to identify and rank work-related stressors. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to determine the effects of game simulation on nursing home personnel's attitudes toward the elderly. Data were collected using the Elderly Person's Questionnaire pre- and post-game simulation. The purpose of this research study was to correlate k n owledge about diabetes to age. From a population of former clients of the diabetic unit at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, a sample of 21 individuals w e r e g i v e n the Assessment of Educational Needs of the Diabetic Patient Questionnaire. This was a quasi-experimental study designed to determine the effects of touch on depression in elderly nursing home residents. The null hypothesis stated there would be no significant difference at the .05 level of significance between depressed elders who participated in touch therapy and elders who did not participate in touch therapy. Data were collected from 10 elders, age 65 or older, who were residents of two nursing homes in Northeast Mississippi. This study was descriptive in nature, designed to identify differences in coping strategies of spouses of Alzheimer patients who are cared for at home . Data were collected using the Chronicity Impact and Coping Instrument: Spouse Questionnaire. The sample consisted of 14 subjects (3 males and 11 females) who met the criteria for the study. Subjects ranged in age from 60 to 86 years with an average age of 68.9 years. One Black and 13 Caucasians participated. To test the hypothesis, data were analyzed using percentiles. A quasi-experimental study was used to study the effect of plush animals on depression in elderly nursing home residents. The researcher hypothesized that there would be no significant difference between depression prior to and following plush animal therapy. Data were collected preand p o s t - p l u s h animal therapy using the Beck Depression Inventory. There were four subjects who each selected a plush animal, kept it with them for 5 weeks, and were then retested using the Beck Depression Inventory. This descriptive study focused on the bureaucratic, professional, and service role conceptions of nurses. It was hypothesized that there are significant differences in the ideal and actual perceptions of these role orientations among baccalaureate nursing students, their nursing faculty, and their clinical nurse mentors. Nurse educators and nursing service administrators have different expectations for the baccalaureate graduate nurse. The difference in expectations has made the transition from student to practitioner difficult for the new graduate.
The purpose of this study was to identify the ideal and real expectations regarding entry level performance as perceived by nurses who graduated in 1985 from 17 of 31 baccalaureate programs represented in the Consensus on Entry project. The ideal and real expectations of the graduates were compared to the nurse educators' and the nursing service administrators' results from the consensus on Entry project.
