Problem: A medical center in the Diablo Service Area had one of the highest rates in hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI), benchmarking with other facilities, with the project unit one of the top offenders. The patients and the medical center both suffered from the harm. Barriers to HAPI prevention included lack of patient turnings, skin assessment, and early standard wound care treatment.

Context: This project focused on the primary care team standardizing early wound care treatment to avoid wound progression.

PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was, in adult patients with hypertension (P), how does evidence-based education material (I) compared to the current state of verbal instructions provided (C) affect health literacy rates based on the high blood pressure health literacy scale (O) within 12-weeks (T)?

Problem: Failure to identify and treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with academic underachievement, social difficulties, negative physical and mental health effects. Evidence suggests approximately 3% of a broad-based population sample and roughly 13% of an at-risk population are undiagnosed despite significant symptomology (Downey & Zun, 2018; Madsen et al., 2018; Okumura et al., 2019). There are disparities in knowledge among healthcare workers when caring for adult patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Lack of knowledge about the characteristics of this population and strategies to enhance care pose a barrier to treatment during hospitalization. Adverse respiratory events are the most common injuries in anesthesia; difficult intubation and ventilation contribute to most cases. Injuries following inadequate airway management include cerebral hypoxia, aspiration, and cardiac arrest. Despite the risk and consequences following inadequate airway management, most medical facilities lack standardized airway assessments for anesthesia providers. Current evidence implicates that ultrasound measurement of the hyomental distance demonstrates the highest specificity and accuracy in predicting difficult intubation. The traditional approach to conducting airway assessments includes Mallampati classification, which shows high specificity for predicting difficult airways only when combined with other airway assessments.
