OBJECTIVE: To identify the risk factors of stress among school-going adolescents in rural Nawabshah, Pakistan. METHODS: The cross-sectional study was conducted in 2005, comprising 800 school-going children of 10-16 years of age in Nawabshah, through simple random sampling. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire to assess the potential risk factors of stress. A modified version of Perceived stress scale was utilized to measure stress level. SPSS 12 was used for statistical analysis, while multiple linear regression analysis was run to identify the factors associated with stress in the study population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of selected modules of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM IV (KID-SCID, Version 1.0). The Disruptive Behavior Disorders (i.e., ADHD, ODD, CD) and Substance Related Disorders modules of the KID-SCID were administered to 50 adolescents receiving residential treatment for substance abuse and severe behavioral problems. This study examined available evidence for inter-rater reliability and convergent validity. Convergent validity was demonstrated for the Disruptive Behavior Disorders module, however, the Substance Abuse Disorders module failed to converge with frequency of use for most substances. The purpose of this report is to describe caregiving by teens for family members with Huntington disease (HD). Thirty-two teens in HD families in the United States and Canada participated in focus groups from 2002 to 2005 in a study to identify concerns and strategies to manage concerns. An unexpected finding was 24 (77%) described caregiving activities. Descriptive analysis of caregiving statements identified themes of Tasks and Responsibilities, Subjective Burden, Caregiving in Context of Personal Risk for HD, and Decisional Responsibility. Although the diagnosis of a child's chronic illness is typically a stressful time for parents, the events leading up to it vary considerably across families. As part of a larger study that addressed the experience of living with chronic illness, an analysis was undertaken to identify major themes in parental reports of the events preceding their child's diagnosis of chronic illness. Data are based on accounts given by parents in 63 families from three health science centers in the midwestern United States. “I Have Always Felt Different:” The Experience Of Childhood Ad/Hd, Mona Shattell, T. Robin Bartlett, Tracie Rowe

Childhood attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD) is one of the most important psychiatric problems of our time. This study examined the experience of childhood AD/HD within the contexts that are most significant to this age group – home, school, and friendships. The sample included 16 college-enrolled young adults (ages 18 - 25) with a self-reported history of AD/HD. Participants revealed feelings of difference, misunderstanding, and struggle in all areas of their lives (home, school, and friendships). Nurses can use these findings to improve the care and long-term outcomes of children diagnosed with AD/HD.
