Comparison Of Cultural Self-Efficacy Between Urban And Rural Nurse Educators, Denise Rene Morris
Comparison Of Cultural Self-Efficacy Between Urban And Rural Nurse Educators, Denise Rene Morris
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Integration of an inclusive educational environment requires nursing faculty to embrace a transformational change in academics. The cultural interactions of an educator teaching in an urban district may differ from the relations experienced by a rural nurse educator. The purpose of this quantitative study, guided by Bandura’s social cognitive theory, was to determine whether there is a difference between the cultural self-efficacy scores of nurse faculty teaching in a rural location compared to those in an urban location as well as whether the demographics of age, ethnic background, and years in the nursing profession predict cultural self-efficacy scores. Nursing faculty …
A Nursing Staff Education Module On Survivorship Care Plans In Primary Care, Janette Francis
A Nursing Staff Education Module On Survivorship Care Plans In Primary Care, Janette Francis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Survivorship care plans (SCPs) bridge the gap in the transition of care from oncology to primary care providers (PCPs) for breast cancer survivors. Despite strong recommendations for SCPs, their use remains limited. Guided by Knowles’ adult learning theory, the project focused on, first, determining whether a predeveloped staff education activity was valid using the Lynn model criteria for validation. Second, if in a rural clinic where SCP were not consistently used providers, nurses, and staff knowledge regarding the importance of SCP would increase following an educational program. An expert panel of 5 educational experts validated the educational module for appropriateness …

Effects Of Education On Rural Emergency Department Preceptors’ Self-Efficacy And Knowledge, Katherine Marie Jasper
Effects Of Education On Rural Emergency Department Preceptors’ Self-Efficacy And Knowledge, Katherine Marie Jasper
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The Emergency Nurses Association recommends nurse preceptorship programs for emergency departments (EDs) to give nurses the skills needed for precepting new nurses; however, many rural areas do not have nurse education for preceptorship, and no standardized training is available for preparing preceptors for their roles. Rural ED preceptors therefore lack knowledge and skills needed for precepting new nurses. The purpose of this study, guided by Benner’s skill acquisition and self-efficacy theory, was to determine if there were significant differences in 33 rural ED nurse preceptors’ knowledge and self-efficacy after they completed an online informational PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint education program …
Exploring Health Literacy In The Acute Care Setting In A Rural Border Region, Shiloh Williams
Exploring Health Literacy In The Acute Care Setting In A Rural Border Region, Shiloh Williams
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Health literacy is important to ensuring patients have the necessary knowledge and skills needed to actively participate as a member of their own healthcare team. Patients with low health literacy are at increased risk for poor outcomes and limited participation in decisions affecting their health or treatment plan. Using the Social Ecological Model (SEM) as a framework, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between medical-surgical registered nurses, medical-surgical patients and the registered nurse’s (RN) assessment of their patient’s health literacy of those who live in a rural-border region. The study’s sample consisted of 84 pairs of …
Improving Access To Cancer Care For The Rural Community With Telehealth, Cheryl Ann Fiscelli
Improving Access To Cancer Care For The Rural Community With Telehealth, Cheryl Ann Fiscelli
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
After a diagnosis of cancer, timely access to oncology care is a priority. For patients living in a rural community, there are many challenges such as proximity to cancer care, reduced access to state-of-the art therapies, lack of coordinated care, and limited access to clinical trials. A multidisciplinary consultation (MDC) via telehealth can improve access to care for rural oncology patients. The purpose of this project was to determine the effects of telehealth MDC on the time in days from diagnosis to the first treatment with the goal of persuading the project site to implement a telehealth MDC. The data …
Planning For A Community Supported Farmers Market In A Rural Usda Food Desert, Carrie Lynn Engelbright
Planning For A Community Supported Farmers Market In A Rural Usda Food Desert, Carrie Lynn Engelbright
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A community initiative to develop and sustain a farmer's market can address insufficient access to fresh and affordable fruits and vegetables for individuals working and residing in a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) designated food desert. This project addressed a particular USDA food desert in South Wood County, Wisconsin. The purpose of this project was to develop and plan for implementation and evaluation of a community-supported farmers market in South Wood County, with the goal to increase access to fruits and vegetables. Project objectives included development of a sustainable community infrastructure to support the market, development of policies and …
Preceptor Training And Nurse Retention, Laurie Lynn Squillaci
Preceptor Training And Nurse Retention, Laurie Lynn Squillaci
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Nurse turnover is a significant problem that has led to a nursing shortage in hospitals, particularly in rural hospitals. The nursing shortage will continue to grow if changes are not implemented to retain qualified nurses. Nurse turnover puts patients at risk for substandard care and increases healthcare-related costs, as organizations try to recoup costs to train and orient new nurses. Retention, turnover, and quality of care are important organizational drivers. One strategy that targets each of these drivers is to have newly hired nurses partake in a preceptorship, where a preceptor facilitates the assimilation and amalgamation of newly hired nurses …
