Moral distress is a key issue in the healthcare work environment. This course will explore situations in which health care providers may find themselves that result in moral distress; situations can arise from patients, their families, co-workers, or the organization. Providing quality, evidence based practice is many times limited to doing what is allowed per protocols or payors, and not always what is best for that given situation. Included in this presentation are ways to affirm what is felt, assess sources of distress, contemplate risks and benefits of action, and prepare for action.

The Effect Of A Group Lifestyle Coaching Model On Hba1c And Psychosocial Constructs In Low-Income Patients With Type 2 Diabetes, Lillian Tryon, D.N.P.

The epidemic of diabetes and its complications is concerning, and new approaches need to be explored for fostering better patient outcomes in a cost effective way. This exploratory study examined the effectiveness of a group coaching model on glycemic control, diabetes knowledge, diabetes empowerment, and diabetes self-management compared to usual care or participation in a 90-minute diabetes education class. A convenience sample of 34 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was recruited at a clinic providing services to the uninsured.
