Introduction: Postpartum constipation is a common problem women face after delivery. Vaginal tears, pain medications, hormonal changes, decreased activity, dietary changes, and hemorrhoids can all increase the risk of developing constipation in the postpartum period. Evidence Summary: Constipation can cause pain, discomfort, decreased quality of life, and life-long consequences if left untreated. Nurses have a responsibility to the patient to provide quality care by taking a proactive approach to bowel management. Regular assessment of patient bowel habits and the provision of education on non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic prevention measures are recommended. Introduction. If communication between patients and providers is improved, patients have better outcomes because of adhering to medications and treatments. Evidence Summary. Poor communication can lead to unnecessary readmissions and decreased quality of care. Decision aid tools assist patients in compiling thoughts and questions for providers, lead to a higher understanding of the plan of care, and can help patients to clarify confusing components of the treatment plan. Objective. The objective of this study was to explore nursing students’ spirituality, religiosity, and perceived ability to provide spiritual care. Background. Nursing students must be prepared to respond to a patient’s spiritual needs. A gap in knowledge exists as to the educational preparedness necessary to provide a nursing student with the ability to respond to a patient’s spiritual need. Suicide and self-harming behaviors are significant public health problems among children and adolescents globally and in the United States. Despite significant advances in recent decades to understand, prevent, and treat childhood and adolescent self-harming and suicide, suicide rates remain high. Since the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention set a goal to reduce suicide deaths and attempts by 40% by 2020, there has been a paradigm shift in the study of suicide yielding significant advances in the understanding of suicide and other forms of self-inflicted injury.
