Background: Newborns in LMICs face high mortality rates. Multiple factors contribute to these moralities. Among these are unhygienic conditions, and infection of the umbilical cord stump. Unhealthy cultural practices, lack of awareness, myths, and socioeconomic status are key barriers to newborn care. In Pakistan, nearly 300,000 newborns die annually, highlighting the need for improved newborn care.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is significantly driven by misuse and overuse of antibiotics. Graduate health profession interns often prescribe antimicrobials under minimum supervision.

Objectives

This study explored the knowledge, perceptions and confidence of health profession interns in Uganda regarding AMR and rational prescription practices.

Methods

This was a cross-sectional survey employing quantitative techniques carried out between October and November 2022 at six tertiary hospitals in Uganda. Background: Canada is facing increased drug-related harms; thus, a stronger emphasis has been placed on harm reduction strategies such as supervised consumption sites (SCSs). There is a lack of literature on emergency department (ED) registered nurses’ (RNs) perceptions of SCSs and substance use disorders (SUDs), especially in small to mid-sized Canadian cities.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine ED RNs’ perceptions of SUDs and SCSs in Southwestern Ontario hospitals.

The objective of this study was to use a Balanced Centricity (BC) approach to describe how personal values related to experienced quality of care are defined for residents, family and nursing staff in nursing homes. Capturing the values from a multi-stakeholder perspective, a qualitative approach was conducted in which the stakeholders’ (e.g., residents, family members of residents and nursing staff; a triad) experiences, opinions and values were explored. Patients’ evaluations of healthcare often rely on patient satisfaction and encounter-specific approaches. Instead, valuable information can be gained by focusing on patient dissatisfaction with healthcare over time. This study examined patients’ sources of care dissatisfaction when seeking healthcare for a long-term chronic and complex disease (CCD). Participants with a CCD called polycystic kidney disease (N=387) completed an online questionnaire with an open-ended question about dissatisfying experiences. Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is a preventable health condition causing increased hospital stays, over 35,000 deaths each year, and one of the costliest healthcare associated infections. VAP occurs when a patient develops pneumonia after being intubated and mechanically ventilated. Preventative measures are commonly in place amongst facilities, despite these measures VAPs still are occurring. Poor compliance with preventative measures have been observed in regards to oral care. The experiences of mothers enrolled in Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program with virtual home visiting (VHV) during the pandemic remain mostly unknown. This study aimed to describe in detail the experience of home visitors and mothers with VHV during COVID-19 pandemic. This is a prerequisite for guiding future efforts to optimize MIECHV services that are provided through virtual operation.
