The Association Of Nurses’ Assessment And Certainty To Pain Management And Outcomes For Nursing Home Residents In Jordan, Mohammad Jamil Rababa
Theses and Dissertations
Despite advances in dementia care Pain in people with dementia is still under recognized, underestimated, and undertreated because of poor assessment, poor treatment, and factors relating to nurses’ critical thinking and decision-making skills. Unrelieved pain leads to many serious negative health outcomes in people with dementia. The purpose of the study was to examine temporally based relationships between change in behavior, the nurses’ level of certainty regarding pain, assessment scope and outcomes of pain and agitation. Relationship between severity of dementia, comorbid burden, ability to verbally self-report symptoms and patient outcomes of pain and agitation was also investigated.

Psychometric Properties Of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Screening Measures In Patients Referred To A Sleep Clinic, Jennifer N. Miller
Psychometric Properties Of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Screening Measures In Patients Referred To A Sleep Clinic, Jennifer N. Miller
Theses & Dissertations
Background: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) contributes to all-cause and cardiac mortality. There are no current guidelines for OSA screening in outpatient settings. An American Academy of Sleep Medicine task force is focusing on improving detection and categorization of OSA symptoms and severity to promote screening, assessment, and diagnosis of the disorder. The purpose of this study was to identify the psychometric properties of three self-report OSA screening measures (Berlin, Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), STOP Bang) and an objective portable sleep monitor (PSM) compared to apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) levels (≥5, ≥ 15, and ≥ 30) from polysomnogram (PSG).

Nurses' Knowledge Of Eating Disorders, Carly S. Price
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Eating Disorders are a range of disorders marked by abnormal eating habits. These habits can often have a detrimental effect on the body and have the potential to complicate acute medical problems if they are a pre-existing condition. An Evaluation Of Service Learning For Associate Degree Nursing Students, Valerie Marie Pauli
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The purpose of this study was to evaluate outcomes of the service-learning requirement in the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) curriculum at the local college. The problem addressed in this study was that the local ASN program lacked formal evaluation of the service-learning requirement. Guided by Kolb's model of experiential learning, a goal-based, summative evaluation employed as a qualitative case study explored the perceptions of 20 stakeholders including graduates, faculty members, and key community informants. The research questions focused on how service learning influenced a student's learning of cultural competence and the impact service learning had on the community. …
Participant's Perception Of Realism And Pediatric Pain Assessment Utilizing A Virtual Patient: A Pilot Study, Alexandra Carson
Participant's Perception Of Realism And Pediatric Pain Assessment Utilizing A Virtual Patient: A Pilot Study, Alexandra Carson
Honors Undergraduate Theses
The use of simulation in curriculum affords students with the opportunity to enhance clinical skills in a safe environment. However, certain aspects of patient assessment are difficult to reproduce in current simulators, such as changes in facial expressions. Facial expressions are of particular importance when assessing for the presence and severity of pain in the pediatric population. Inconsistencies found in accurate identification of pain suggest the necessity of improved pain assessment training. This study evaluated nursing student’s perceptions of a virtual patient designed to realistically display varying levels of pain in the pediatric patient. Additional purposes of this study were …
